RijkdeGooier Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 A friend is considering a move to Oz working as a barkeep in Adelaide. She was informed by another friend that 20 Ausd would be a reasonable salary. Is this true?
Waah954 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Reasonable is based on an individual but i can tell you that minimum wage is $17.30 an hour. Hope that helps Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
Fuzz AI Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Depending on whether she is employed full-time (38hrs/week), part-time (less than 38 hrs of full-time work), or on a casual basis (receives leave loading to cover entitlements normally given to full-time/part-time workers), would affect the award wage. Here's the link to the award wages: http://awardviewer.fwo.gov.au/award/show/MA000119#P302_31515 Hourly pay is anywhere between $17.79 and $21.39. Note: She will need to complete a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) course, before she can be employed as a bartender or waitress. https://training.gov.au/Training/Details/SITSS00024 http://www.accessallareastraining.com.au/courses/south-australia 2
irratebass Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Wow! Those are amazing prices per hour. Not sure what the difference is with the states on wages though. Our minimum wage is $7.25 per hour.
bobsled Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 17.25 AUD is about 12.43 USD according to google today.
Fuzz AI Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 In Aus, minimum award wages are set nationally. Good for food service workers, as tipping is not customary in Australia. 1
MIKA27 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Wow! Those are amazing prices per hour. Not sure what the difference is with the states on wages though. Our minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Yes and no because the cost of everything here is relative so we earn more but we also pay a lot more.. 1
RDBM Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Cost of living in Oz is pretty high so wages need to be commensurate. UK min wage depends on age to a certain extent and starts about £5.25 per hour which isn't a lot !
luv2fly Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Wow! Those are amazing prices per hour. Not sure what the difference is with the states on wages though. Our minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. I know servers earn less but are allowed "tips". Still $14 an hour would be good here in the states but tips would put it higher. I always tip 20% here and abroad if allowed. I have a great respect for bartenders and servers. I could not do that job. I just can't put up with the BS.
First Lady Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Depends on the persons age as well , honestly she will be better off working in a café as they get paid more. If she is over 21 years of age it is $23.75 an hour during the day and higher rates if she works nights. Tell her to keep away from Hotels as they work on award rates and it is much lower.. hope this helps 1
Fuzz AI Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 This link will allow you to calculate your award wage: https://calculate.fairwork.gov.au/FindYourAward 1
maxcjs0101 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 How about 1.20usd/hr as the minimum wage in my country while a Big Mac here costs about 2.70usd.
Fuzz AI Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 How about 1.20usd/hr as the minimum wage in my country while a Big Mac here costs about 2.70usd. That's just McDonalds looking after your best interest. The amount of work you do to pay for the Big Mac will will also burn off the calories from the Big Mac. See how McDonalds cares for you?
sengjc Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 How about 1.20usd/hr as the minimum wage in my country while a Big Mac here costs about 2.70usd. How much does a Big Mac cost over there?
polarbear Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 How much does a Big Mac cost over there? In Australia? Bout $4.50
Duxnutz Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Don't move to Oz unless you get a job earning 100k minimum. Cost of living is roughly 2x comparable to the US and even 2x-3x when it comes to some things.
sastrooper Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I wish 4.50, a big macs 5.95 in syd and i assume elsewhere in aust as well
sengjc Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Not only is it more expensive, it is apparently smaller in comparison to the rest of the world too: http://www.news.com.au/national/big-mac-not-really-as-australian-version-of-burger-downsized/story-e6frfkp9-1225734286785 On a side note - plain packaging for Big Macs? Haven't noticed this: http://theadelaidecurrent.com/2015/08/10/mcdonalds-big-mac-is-now-forced-to-be-sold-in-plain-packaging/
sastrooper Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Hahah we get jipped for everything down under
