This has got to be the worst idea ever. A recent report said that 14.5% of tobacco in Australia was purchased illegally. That is already a ludicrously high number. All we have done with these tax hikes is create a black market for criminal organisations to thrive. Criminals are already willing to take the risk of importing tobacco with current profit margins. When tobacco prices increase, that risk stays the same but the potential reward has just doubled. We can expect to see a surge in illegally imported tobacco should this go through. The annoying thing is it will look like smoking rates have decreased through fewer sales, which is a win in the politicians eyes. They will overlook how many people just converted to buying their tobacco illegally.

Your not gonna believe who I ran into today getting on the escalator at Sydney airport but The Hon. Bill Shorten himself.

As he stepped off the escalator the step below me I told him that I would have a cigar tonight when I got home and toast to his health.

Don't know if he got the parallel or not (he's seems dumb as a hammer) but made my day!

US tobacco taxes are really screwed up. Every state is different. The funny thing is Washington DC has no tax on cigars. I attached a link to the site. It shows a $9.50 cigars and what you would pay in each state. Check out Utah. It's cheaper to smoke weed.
