you would bet dollars to doughnuts that the leading contenders would be any of our previous three prime ministers but no...

i was away most of the week so missed mundine and his latest rubbish.

the article below sums it up but i would go further.

first, there is no possibility of this idiot being mentioned in the same breath as thurston unless the sentence also says 'was less than a shadow of the player in every possible way'.

he was at three clubs because no one could stand him and he was nowhere near as good as he thought he was (god couldn't be as good as mundine thinks he was).

he won a flag at brisbane thanks only to all the talent around him. he was largely irrelevant and immediately dumped.

he could have had a second at the saints but for his arrogance and incompetence and selfishness on the field when, with a man open on the line in the grand final, he went himself and lost the ball. he passes and that try would have put the saints too far into the clear. instead, they are run down and lose.

to attack legends like daley and artie beetson on racial grounds shows what a vile little grub he is. and how stupid he is (they are all the same race).

and not to forget he insisted, on national tv, that america brought 9/11 on itself and deserved it.

he is the only aussie (with the possible exception of tomic and his tennis buddy, kygios) who brings together an entire nation supporting his opponent, no matter where he is from. put him in a ring with richie mccaw and i'd be cheering for the kiwi.

worst australian ever. this would be a far better country with him gone for good.

“Better than Thurston” Will Choc ever shut up?

By Andrew Pelechaty, 14 Nov 2015

Mundine better than Thurston? Please.

Aussie sports fans are used to the ridiculous boasts from Anthony Mundine, but his trash talking of Johnathan Thurston was extreme even for him.

Promoting his fight with Charles Hatley (which he lost), Mundine favourably compared himself with the North Queensland, Queensland and Australian superstar. He said Thurston was like him “but way slower…I think I had twin turbos. If he had twin turbos he’d be similar to me. I think if I was around another five or so years I would have got the (accolades) I deserve.”

While most retired sports starts are content enough not to bring up past glories, Mundine, who retired 15 years ago, is fixed on reminding everyone how good he thought he used to be.

Let’s look at the stats.

Games: Mundine 127 (St. George, Brisbane, St. George-Illawarra), Thurston 268 (North Queensland, Canterbury)
Points: Mundine 244, Thurston 1794
Premierships: Mundine – 1 (Brisbane 1997), Thurston – 2 (Canterbury 2004, North Queensland 2015).
Origin: Mundine (NSW) 3 games, 4 points, Thurston (Queensland) 33 games, 200 points.
Tests: Mundine 0 games, Thurston 32 games, 332 points.

While Mundine’s been shooting his mouth off, Thurston has been soaking up the premiership glory and enjoying the off-season.

To be fair to Mundine, he’s managed to switch from rugby league to a decent boxing career, with 47 wins and 7 losses. The jury’s still out on the quality of some of those wins though. While he famously beat Danny Green in 2006, talks of a rematch persist and Green is the crowd favourite.

While Mundine is proud of his Indigenous heritage, he not afraid to criticise fellow Indigenous athletes who have done plenty for their community like Thurston. He knocked runner Cathy Freeman, saying “She sold out, toeing the line…as far as being a leader, that’s not her anyway, a man can only lead”.

He also criticised fellow boxer and Tasmanian Daniel Geale, saying “I thought they wiped all the Aborigines from Tasmania out…He’s got a white woman, he’s got white kids. I keep it real, all day every day”.

You’d almost credit Mundine for having the courage to avoid the boring cliché-speak of most other sports starts, before realising what he said was stupid, racist and offensive.

So why can’t Mundine shut up? Does his ego fuel the need to create headlines? Does he like the attention? Or could it be a cynical ploy to generate fight publicity through controversy?

Beause he's an F wit.

He's not just an embarrassment to Australians.... He's an embarrassment to those of us who enjoy breathing oxygen.

Yes and I will never forget or forgive what he did after 9/11

And on a day like today it irks me even more. My thoughts and prayers are with the good people of Paris.

warren, spot on in all respects.

It's a shame he has continued with this 'attention-seeking' persona for so long. He's quietly spoken in real life, yet this doesn't excuse his remarks in the past.

john, i remember you saying what he was like privately. so sad someone has not convinced him to reflect that publicly.

he is entitled to opinions but when they are so appalling and idiotic, all he does is bring utter contempt upon himself.

i am especially annoyed at him today as i see that gibbering dill, fitzsimons (the only bloke i've ever seen who was not brought to his feet at a cracking springsteen concert, amongst many other dreadful moments), has spoken against him. anything that causes me to agree with fitzsimons is galling (i can only assume that monarchists managed to appoint him as head of the republican movement because he will be their best weapon - but i digress).

how the hell can mundine be so blind as not to see how people will react when he comes out and attacks one of the greats when he failed to achieve anything like he claims he should have. no one stopped him in the game - just himself.

shows all the symptoms of "relevance deprivation syndrome", best cure is to ignore and talk about something else, eventually the pest will wither and disappear.
