Nrengle Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Sitting in a lounge in London having a smoke and looking through the humidor I noticed a two unopened boxes of Diplomatico 1's. Never had one I love the 2 though. Is it worth it to grab a box or should I pass. I might add it's my last day in London. So now or never.
alpyigit Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I have two boxes from 01. Nice tasting sticks but be ready to deal with tight draws.
garbandz Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 depends on age and cost. and how they look. what provenance? '03 and up........buy them over your budget.........leave them how you going to get thru Customs??????????
Nrengle Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 I'm with a band I just chuck the stuff in our gear when it goes back to the states air freight and good to go. When you ship 55k kilos of gear they tend to not check hahaha And thanks for the info. Right now it's between the dip 1 and the h upmann 2012 edicion limitada that I love.
Nrengle Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Oh and they're from 2005 need to check the factory code though
srbbones Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 IMO, considering wacky UK taxes, I would say your money is better spent here... Might be worth getting a few sticks 1
Smallclub Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Buy a couple sticks to try them, as there's little chance you see them again. Select them carefully – avoid those that are hard as drum sticks; if you're not too confident just take the 2 that are the lightest in your hand.
Nrengle Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Oh believe me I'll buy from here. But being stock that is no longer available you have to get it where ya can. I only grabbed two sticks to try it out rather than buy blind. Also picked up the Ramon Allones petit Piramides GB release. The vintage wall had cases of air winstons from 1993 to 95 I believe it was. Smelled and looked incredible. When I found out the price I gently set them down and thanked them for their presence lol

Considering the plane that just crashed might have been blown up by a bomb, you might have to consider your 55k kilos of gear much more scrutinized. Food for thought. 1

TCContender Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I am actually smoking one right now from a box I picked up in Dubai. Previous posters are correct regarding the overfill issue inherent with these smokes, but if you can find good ones, they are stellar smokes. The box code on mine is ARA JUL 03.
Scardinoz Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 That's a shame about the overfilled issue. That can often be resolved with a bit of encouragement just shy of that needed to damage the cigar. I'm wondering if people have had success with slightly squeezing and rolling the cigar between their fingers or on the table to loosen it up or perhaps those overfilled cigars are just too far gone. I'm prone to take it as far as I can before damaging it just because the alternative is throwing it away. Plugged cigars break my heart.

What I usually do in a plugged situation/overfill is I take a really small awl I have and run it dead middle of the cigar. Usually pops it open just enough. Kinda like taking an old guitar string to your bowl or bong when you were a kid. Not that I'd know or anything lol
