The Bolivar Petit Coronas holds a special place in my heart as my favorite small smoke and the first box I purchased here at FoH. Bought this box last August in a 12:12, and smoked most of them through the fall and winter. This is one of my last two from the box, and I haven’t had any since April or so as the weather got warmer and the bigger cigars came out. No box or date code unfortunately as I never thought to write it down and the empty box was lost at some point during a recent move, but they were from early 2014 I believe. I remember these as have a bit of kick (mongrel as our host might say) last year, and were a perfect introduction to Cuban cigars for myself coming from the profile of NCs. I’m interested to see how it is now with about a year and a half on it.

Prelight: Draw is great, perfect amount of resistance. Wrapper doesn’t seem very oily. A few green water spots dot the wrapper. Cold draw is chocolate, earthy, and tobacco. Paired with water for this review.

Start: 3:28. Gentle breeze, 65 and sunny.

1st third: Met by flavors similar to cold draw upon lighting, chocolate and earthy. Bit of pepper that wasn’t in cold draw. Immediately burn hits an under filled spot along a small vein. Earthy and a bit creamy too. Definitely different than the last one I had about 6 months ago. Smoke production is impressive for such a small cigar, even at rest putting off wafts of beautiful smelling smoke. Thick clouds of smoke on draws.

2nd third: Burn line is coming around on correcting itself finally. The earthy tobacco profile is ramping up a bit, and the chocolate seems to have receded. Still a bit of creaminess underneath the earthy flavors, along with a little more pepper. This is closer to the profile I remember from before, though the chocolate at the start was nice. Earth and pepper have completely taken over as the 2nd third wraps up.

Final third: A dark coffee flavor starts to come through a bit as the final third starts. Burn has evened up without any torch intervention. A bit of creaminess seems to be creeping back in just a little on the retrohale, a nice surprise. This profile continues through the end of the cigar. Draw is a little open towards the end, but not overly so.

End: 4:34. Smoked down to a nub.

Final smoke time was one hour and six minutes. This was a great reminder why I love these. I would love to see what another year or two would do to these, which I’ll try with the next box I am getting thanks to this weekend’s 24:72. I would love to have a box of these around all the time. Thanks for the contest!
