El Presidente Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Appointment changes at El Laguito Cigar Factory. Two weeks ago, the Tabacuba business Group appointed Sr. Pedro LuisPerez as Head of the El Laguito cigar factory. The move is a little unexpected as it was hoped someone internally from EL Laguito would be appointed after Elilia Tamayo retired. The new head has come from a small factory located outside the Havana City, near the San Antonio de los Baños municipality. The information became official within the sector but nothing has been released to the media. Rumor has it that the appointment is temporary while they try to find the right person for the job. Anyway, that is 5 managers in 6 years (Miguel Brown, Collazo, ArnaldoOvalle, Jose Enrique and the recently appointed Pedro Luis). The new manager has apparently started well......firing several longstanding employees
skalls Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Pardon my ignorance here, is that the cohiba mother factory?
El Presidente Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Pardon my ignorance here, is that the cohiba mother factory? Spiritual home/factory of Cohiba. Not all Cohiba are rolled there but still regarded (by myself) as the finest factory in Cuba.
earthson Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Please pardon MY ignorance, but which factory is home to Trinidad? 1
Guest rob Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Hopefully Berta and her crew are doing well, and their jobs safe. The place would not be the same without her.

El Presidente Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 So does this mean a buying rush on Cohibas? Not at all. Just an update.

Dimmers Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Out of interest - would the head of a factory be able to 'influence' blends in any manner (aside from staff hirings/ firings) ?
El Presidente Posted October 9, 2015 Author Posted October 9, 2015 Out of interest - would the head of a factory be able to 'influence' blends in any manner (aside from staff hirings/ firings) ? No. The head of the factory influences the culture of the factory as a whole (Quality/work place pride etc). They also oversee the production logistics.
Dimmers Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Cheers for the context Rob. Didnt mean to fan any fires, just curious.* *(emailing Di about a mastercase order for Cohiba now )
BonVivant Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 whoever was the manager at El Laguito in 2013 - coodos to her/him 2
oliverdst Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 There is absolute no sense "firing several longstanding employees". Why would they do that??? Old employees are more "expensive" than new ones??? I don't think this is the problem in Cuban factories. If they were relocated it would be ok but firing does not sound good. I would say this has to do more with backdoors selling or things like that (I dont know a thing about this, just guessing). Another guess it's that the new manager loves productivity so new torcedores will roll more cigars than the old ones (quality apart).
Ryan Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Hopefully Berta and her crew are doing well, and their jobs safe. The place would not be the same without her. I just heard from Berta, she's fine. She confirms, if there was any need to confirm, that there is a new director. whoever was the manager at El Laguito in 2013 - coodos to her/him I said Arnaldo earlier but he had left. Jose Enrique took over in late 2012.
