CanuckSARTech Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Hey all, Going to Las Vegas this weekend with the wife. Have no idea where we're staying (she's organizing it all), but wondering who might be willing to meet up for a smoke? I have no idea if the Friday night or the Saturday night might be better (thinking Friday honestly, or even maybe Thursday). I still have yet to talk with her (read "ask permission" , lol) if a cigar meet-up is in the cards. But I remember loads of you saying about the Rhum Bar being a good place to get together for a smoke, and that they're Habanos-friendly (IIRC). Can't remember any specifics about what hotel that's located at, any cut fees, what they're overall drink pricing is like, etc., etc. Any thoughts / suggestions? Anyone up for a meet on the Thursday or Friday?
btp1979 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 It's at the Mirage. No cut fees, drink prices are not bad at all, but bring your own smokes. I was there about a month ago, hit up Casa Fuente but it was a pretty big disappointment. 2 boxes of their exclusive Casa Fuente smokes were covered in mold under the cello. Another customer commented on it and the sales guy said it was plume, I just left. Everything was between 3 or 4 x MSRP.
Shrody234 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Rhumbar is a great and in front of the Mirage; its outdoors so hit that up at night. From what I can remember there's no cut fee fee and drinks are decently priced (for Vegas). Make sure to get the Old Cuban, its absolutely delicious. Of course, head to Casa Fuente (inside Ceasar's Fourm shops). Mojitos are good and its a Fuente paradise. Good for any time of the day. I know Davidoff is putting in a lounge somewhere. Not sure if its done or where it is, but that would probably be worth looking into. Enjoy the pools during the day and make sure to see at least one Cirque de Solei show. And the veal parm at Rao's is amazing!!! Enjoy your vaca
DoubleDD Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 If you want an italian dinner that will rock your world and if the wife likes wine, try Ferraro's (http://www.ferraroslasvegas.com). Las Vegas' largest wine selection. They make homemade Nutella dessert crepes that are amazing. If you can snag Mimo, the executive chef/owner, he'll prepare a special menu for you. Top notch.

I was at a conference there back in May, and saw the "plume"-covered sticks too...on a BBMF nonetheless!
Orion21 Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I was there just a few weeks ago Keith. There aren't a lot of smoking friendly locations aside from the casinos. However, there is a VERY cigar friendly whiskey/bourbon bar at the mirage called Whiskey Down where you can bring your own cigars and order all sorts of great brown liquor. There are TV's all over to watch the games, very nice leather seating to relax in, a great bourbon and whiskey selection and they even bring you cigar ashtrays instead of having to use cigarette trays like most places. My friends and I were there for 5 hours one night and had a great time. Also, make sure you ask for a smoking room if you want to smoke your cigars in your room. They are still available, but most hotels only reserve one floor now-a-days. Have fun and report back with pictures!
LLC Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Have fun Keith. Enjoy Rumbar and as others have said bring your own CC's.
danny Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I would've said Casa Fuente would've been the best place to get a special smoke (the exclusive Casa Fuente house blend, the Lancero in particular) after going there for years and years. But since their recent remodel a several months ago, they're humidification system is absolutely HORRIBLE. Things used to be just fine in there before but have taken a HUGE turn for the worse. I told them that it's WAAAAY too humid in there upon walking in because you literally couldn't really see anything 5 feet away from you. They said it was the right humidity and that is was "custom calibrated" with the remodel. But when another customer in their agreed with me that it was going to ruin everything in there after seeing the cigar wrappers starting to wrinkle along with a haze on the cello. That's when they said that the humidifier for the room was set that whenever the door opens, the unit turns on and blast humidity into the room regardless of what the humidity in the room already was/is. And we're talking literally BLASTING of thick, cloudy, white, humid air that you can see. Just a matter of time.... Such a shame... Anyways, there are decent stands/shops throughout the Palazzo and Venetian Hotels if you swing by, with the best shop an actual store where the Canal Shoppes/Courtyard area is. If you have time though, there are a ton of great shops around the Las Vegas area to swing through. But like most said, bring your own smokes and enjoy wherever you'd like! 1
Upgrayedd Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Aw so close. I'll be in Vegas for work tomorrow and possibly Wednesday. If you happen to get out there early, or if anyone else reading this is in Las Vegas and wanting to smoke Tues/Weds night, message me.
JohnS Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Good on you Keith, I hope you and your wife have a wonderful and relaxing time. I went with my family in 2011 (remember when the Australian and Canadian dollar were at parity with the US dollar?) and we thoroughly enjoyed the Beatles Cirque de Soleil LOVE show at The Mirage and the Cheesecake Factory at the Forum Shops at Caesars. While perusing the forum, I remember Andre Dawson doing a signing after being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame and my wife asking, "who's that?"

ChanceSchmerr Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 A damn shame about the cigars at Casa Fuente. used to be my one cigar haven in Vegas.
Shrody234 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 sounds like RIP Casa Fuente, that's a shame. Was there about 4 years ago and it was great...
jdo2110 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 LOVE!! Amazing show! And if nothing else about Casa Fuente, you might be able to find a few unharmed smokes, and have a great mojito. Might as well check it out since you're there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MIKA27 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Hi Keith, unsure what to suggest as I never been Vegas, but I do hope you and your wife have a wonderful time. 1
CanuckSARTech Posted September 30, 2015 Author Posted September 30, 2015 Thanks all for the wishes for a good time. Trust me, the wife and I do need it. It's been a very stressful and trying three months over the summer, with lots of family and work stuff for both of us. Doing a LOT better now, and moving forward now that things are settled and improved, so we're definitely gonna enjoy our leisure time this fall. Sounds like the Rhum Bar will be a must-see then. If any are up to meeting Thursday and/or Friday night for a cigar and a drink, we'd be up for it. Erin says we're just going with the flow - no set plans really, though she does apparently have a few things up her sleeves (skirt?, LOL). But those nights we can work on something tentatively, pending any thoughts she has to see a show or whatnot. If anyone's up for that, send me a PM, and we can co-ordinate via that (or text). HarveyBlvd, PM returned bud. Regarding shows, thanks for the tips. She mentioned that the Michael Jackson might be one she wanted, but we both also talked about the various Cirque de Soleil ones ("O" is one I know of, but there's a few others - that one where the stage has the pools built into it, I think, and was the first one CdS did in Vegas I believe), and we've also both mentioned the Beatles "Love" show. So, we're on the wall about what to pick there, and I think it'll just depend on what's available upon our arrival, and if we can get some sort of a deal. Erin tried to work some deals perhaps with a friend, but that apparently fell through without much help, so maybe it'll just depend on what we can find a package discount for or something like that. 1
TheGipper Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Any of the casino bars will have absolutely no problem with you smoking your own cigars. No one will even know what a "cut fee" is. So smoke away. Here are my favorites: 1. Seahorse Lounge at Caesar's Palace. Comfortable seating and a nice vibe with all the people walking through the casino. Was just there myself Sunday night. Great service. 2. The Chandelier Bar at The Cosmopolitan. Wonderful setting, you feel like you are inside a giant chandelier! Gets busy on weekend nights, but open all day. Again, light up with confidence here, no one's going to bother you about smoking there. My favorite place used to be the Mix Lounge at Delano Hotel on the 64th Floor. Outdoor balcony with amazing view of the Strip. We used to go between opening (5pm) and 10pm when it was quiet - it's loud and clubby after 10pm. But they've remodeled and re-branded it as the Skyfall Lounge now. I think it just re-opened. No idea if it's still cigar friendly, but I would expect it is. Worth a try if you're at the Mandalay Bay. You will not forget the view. Entrance to the elevator is hard to find (near the Michael Jackson show doors), so ask a staff member at Mandalay Bay and they'll point you the right direction. Business casual dress code used to apply, probably still does.
TheGipper Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Update: Just checked the Delano website, it appears Skyfall Lounge isn't open yet. http://www.delanolasvegas.com/dining/skyfall-lounge.aspx
TheGipper Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Update to the update...Skyfall Lounge opening this Thursday! http://la.eater.com/2015/9/25/9398547/alain-ducasses-rivea-skyfall-lounge-opening-oct-1-delano-las-vegas So be sure to check it out. You can thank me by posting a trip report when you get back. Try for a visit just before sunset. They used to do a free champagne toast at sunset every night. And watching the sunset over the strip is magical.
