Popular Post CoCigarSmoker Posted September 15, 2015 Popular Post Posted September 15, 2015 Well gents, I truly wasn’t planning on sitting down and doing a review tonight as I’ve just been enjoying smoking lately. But, This cigar was so amazing that I just couldn’t bring myself not to share. I’m not going to say I am celebrating, but sort of, I climbed Pyramid Peak the other day. It is a 14,018’ mountain in Colorado and it is one of Colorado’s most difficult and most dangerous peaks. It was a successful summit bid and marks my 17th mountain climbed over 14,000’. The day involved hiking and climbing over 4500’ vertical feet up to the summit and then descending back again. All in all the day totaled 8.2 miles round trip and over 9,000’ of elevation gain and loss. This was accomplished in 8.5 hrs from car to car. So, I figured I earned a little porch time with a cigar. I recently purchased a box of Montecristo Petit Edmundos (ELG AGO 2014) from our amazing host. They only recently arrived and like always I tell myself I would leave them alone for at least a month. Well, as I sit here it’s been more like 9 days haha. That being said these are amazing ROTT!!! I always knew that I enjoyed Montecristo, but I didn’t know if it was more of a nostalgia thing or if I truly loved the flavor profile. Still, while I may be a fanboy, the more I smoke them the more I find myself looking for more boxes to purchase, so perhaps it’s a bit of both. With all that said, please, if you enjoy Monte’s seek out this box code or if you have grabbed a box recently, dig in and enjoy!!!! Construction The construction of this cigar was spot on. Initially I didn’t plan on doing a review but this cigar took me by storm. That being said, the cigar had no soft spots, the wrapper was beautiful, and once I cut the cap I noticed a beautiful dimpled top. The draw pre-light was perfect. Needless to say I don’t want to spend any more time talking about construction, I want to tell you why you need to smoke these cigars……or go buy these cigars right now!!! Aroma at cold Deep cedar and smooth, I mean smooth roasted tobacco. There are just slight notes of cocoa and cream that make this cigar something of beauty. To say my hopes are high is an understatement! First Third This cigar starts off so perfect, I mean just so perfect. As I sit here I can sum up this cigar for you: MONTECRISTO, MONTECRISTO, MONTECRISTO!!!! But seriously, The diversity of flavors that are so elegantly wrapped up by creamy goodness is almost too much to fathom. I must say I have smoked some pretty expensive cigars lately and this little guy has taken the cake. Now in the other cigars defense I think they need more age and they are different by creation, but still, I’m in love right now. Each draw is filled with sight notes of cocoa with a smooth creamy richness that is comprised of a little espresso, Cuban barnyard, grassy hay, and leather. Now, when I’m talking leather I’m not talking the kind of leather that you see when it’s on a cow, I’m talking they type of leather that is in a brand new Ferrari La Ferrari, the kind of leather that you can’t even believe someone would sit on. The draw on this cigar has been amazing and unchanging and the burn is like a razor. As you release the smoke your palate is left with a very easy and enjoyable dark chocolate/cocoa flavor coupled with roasted tobacco. Second Third As the cigar progresses into the second third the construction is still spot on, the draw is holding steady, and the burn is still razor sharp. The ash still hasn’t fallen off but I’m sure it is soon to come. The flavor profile is also holding rock solid. All I can really say is my oh my, what a cigar. Talk about consistency and quality. Take that you Cuban cigar hating American cigar companies!!!!! If I were to say that anything changed it would be only that the Cuban twang or barnyard notes have picked up just a pinch, which I thoroughly love. The rich creaminess is almost the consistency of heavy whipping cream mixed with soft mild espresso. The roasted tobacco is there and briefly reminds you that you are in fact smoking a cigar not eating dessert. Just as soon as I said the ash hadn’t fallen off, it did. Normally for those of you that know me you know I smoke extremely slow. However, with this cigar I am having such a hard time putting it down. Final Third As I get into the beginning of the final third I can tell that I’ve been smoking faster than normal because the heat has picked up more so than when I take my time. Again, remember I’m a slow smoker. As I’m getting into the final third I have been smoking this cigar for about 43 minutes. With that being said the consistency in both flavor and construction stands with this cigar. All I can say is I wish I would have bought 50 boxes of these. The very thought of ever running out of this cigar makes me sick to my stomach. All I can think about is how to get more money to go deep on these. The cream has not quite subsided but has been tempered by a bit of heat as I approach the end of this fine cigar. Still, loads of barnyard and hay are present as well as subtle notes of cocoa and richness. This cigar for me is a rich and decadent desert that you take a bite of and just sit and stare and enjoy all while trying not to figure out how to shovel the rest of it into your mouth and causing a scene!!! Take away It is truly cigars like this that make me shake my head and honestly get angry when ANYONE dares to insult or compare Cuban cigars to those produced anywhere else around the world. The very fact that anyone would even conceive to scuff at a stick like this in my opinion shows their level of stupidity. I could smoke this one cigar for the rest of my life and be not only content but happy and joyous. Sitting here and thinking that for less than 10$ USD I have a cigar in my hand with flawless construction, diverse flavors, consistency across the board, and depth and complexity that will only continue to evolve with age is simply a luxury I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve. This ladies and gentlemen is why I smoke cigars and I a big thanks is in order to El Prez and Montecristo, I thank you! Cheers, Seth 6
Habana Mike Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Excellent review and congratulations on another peak! I've recently been smoking from a similar box and couldn't agree more the consistency in these. 1

westg Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Great review ,and I agree a terrific cigar ..I stocked up on these before the 12.5% increase ..and I have to say given the ones I have been smoking it is my favourite regular production cigar at present ..cheers Seth
JohnS Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 I really like this cigar, and I like Montecristo in general. Thanks for this review, Seth. Also, congratulations on another fourteener! I had a look on-line tonight and I found out that 53 of the United States' mountains are abover 14000 feet (4270 metres). That's impressive, considereing that the US has 89 such peaks overall! 1
Optic101 Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 Great review and congrats on the peak ! They are great cigars IMO.

LeafLover Posted November 11, 2015 Posted November 11, 2015 Montecristo has fallen out of favor with me. Ironically, it waa Montecristo (#2) that pushed me over to the CC side. But since then, I've never had a box of Montecristo that I liked. So I've stopped buying them and have them untouched in my stash. But, this year I have been very very interested in the petite edmundo and the Monte 4 but am leery in purchasing a whole box of each ad that is how I initiate myself into a new vitola I have not tried. So, if anyone is willing to make a trade for a couple of these, please pm me. I so badly want to get close to that magical moment when that Monte 2 became a game changer. I remember the night and the feelings i had smoking it. Your review is akin to my utter amazement and sheer enjoyment of my very first Montecristo which was my very first CC six years ago.
oesman Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 I had one of these Petit Edmundo's just the other day, I enjoyed it as well. Had a double edmundo the other night which was good too, but I think got a little too intense and bitter towards the end for my liking. I think the petit emdmundo is the better pick.
bolivr Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Really appreciate the work you put into this review! Great cigar IMO too.
TheMonk Posted January 1, 2016 Posted January 1, 2016 Very nice review, and I totally agree with you when someone seriously dares to compare Cuban production in general with any other... makes absolutely no sense, at least for my personal taste.

squizz Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Good review, I've been thinking about a box of the double, but after this review maybe the petit is a better choice.
BigRay023 Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Great review! Really makes me want to try them out.
miurajus Posted July 12, 2016 Posted July 12, 2016 Thank you for the great write up and pictures & congratulations on the peak. Smoked a PE a few weeks ago and I hear you.. Mine was definitely young, but there were a few draws in the final third that were quite wonderful. Stick had a great "rhythm" first/mid 2nd.. Time will tell!
