Whispers from Havana: The scaling back of Vegas Robaina Marque?

Recommended Posts

The famosos and clasicos i had were mediocre at best, can live without them.

I bought a box of HQ famosos from our host earlier this year and genuinely I can not imagine anyone trying one of these and not being massively impressed. I also have had a bad experience or 2 with different marca that has put me off so I understand how it can happen but I know that when the stars align VR's can be a truly wonderful cigar. I will be gutted if we are seeing their demise.

I am in the RE camp, I have enjoyed most of them, but haven't been a huge fan of the regular production stuff. I have smoked mostly fresh though.

Seeing as Habanos seems to be dead set on getting rid of all their "cigar " people I wouldnt be surprised to see this brand disappear from a business perspective. I cant imagine that its a top seller, and while may be appreciated by "cigar" people....doesnt really do much for the bottom line. Just my opinion. May become one of those lines you just see for regionals too...who knows.

This is rather another confirmation that the government is finally acknowledging the failed past Cubatabaco efforts, I think. You look at it from historical perspective, how the - then - new guard of '90s introduced Trinidad, VR, and San Cristobal (am I missing any others). For a decade, those people tried to develop those marcas ie humidors and books, and were in denial that they failed. Raul looks to socialist renewal in '09, Trinidad is scaled back, losing the T and Robusto Extra, officials and guard who were paid off and corrupt were fired, HSA management replaced, now VR is being scaled back. I'm just surprised SC hasn't been touched yet.
