it might seem strange but on a weekend when an aussie won the PGA, the girls won the world cup netball (making it two world cups this year, the cricket and the netball, both beating the kiwis - not bad), the gunners got a win, the broncos and the lions both got up well and even the skins won a pre season game, you'd think you'd happy. if not for those appalling wallabies...

and the useless cricketers.

Great win by Jason Day with a fantastic final round performance. He's a class act and a true champion. Congratulations to him and all his fans in Australia (and his millions of fans here is the USA, too!)

I was hoping for Jordan to win another major, but I really can't be disappointed in Jason's win. Was a great tournament,.

Had to lookup quite a few of those words lol (well actually just qlder and pillock). Glad he won. He deserved it considering how close he came to winning at the U.S. Open.

I love golf, and I love an Aussie wining a major more than anything. His composure was absolutely smooth, calm and collected! Went for every shot and didn't whimp. No conservative play was seen. I would have chickened out and layed up on every shot....

The most patriotic moment was, on the 17th...PAR 3...Day was putting from something like 80 feet away for birdie, someone from the crowd was yelling out Aussie Aussie, Aussie...Oi Oi Oi! (Gave me goose bumps)...The putt fell short and left it 2 feet from the hole for PAR. Then the American responded with a thumbs up, acknowledging the putt....Amazing sportsmanship...Spieth is a champion, Spieth is No.1....Spieth is 22yrs old....MY GOD!....many more years to come..

Congrats to Day!

Great to see Day win a major, and a very well deserved win at that.

Some great stories already coming out about the journey he took to get this win.

Very nice sportsmanship from Speith as well.

Outstanding tournament by Jason Day, and todays effort was nothing short of spectacular. He made a really difficult course look easy and played with remarkable composure. He truly is everything that is right about golf.

Anyone who follows or plays golf should be really excited about the next few years with the amazing group of young players in the game today.

Congratulations to Day. It had been coming for some time now. It's been clear he has both the game and mental makeup to win majors. Hope to see Day and Spieth in many more final pairings at majors for years to come. Brilliant golf all around.

I'm glad that Day broke through as the sheer effort required to lead (or co-lead) three majors in 2015 after 54 holes and not win must have been gut-wrenching for him. I would imagine the emotion displayed on the 18th after the final putt had a lot to do with a feeling of relief! yes.gif

This is a nicely written piece on Day and makes me even more happy for him.

It's great to see such a hard fought event be played with such good sportsmanship from both the winner and the runner up. It's kind of nice to see this after the last few weeks, with brats/a-holes like Kygrios and Tomic etc stealing the headlines over here!

Sport doesn't get me all patriotic..

Probably the last time I got that was the Americas cup in the eighties and the odd Olympics thingy...

Tennis players and golfers compete for themselves.. yeah they going to come from one country or another...

Well deserved. Like some did with Tiger, he did not collapse with Jordan on his heels.

I think that's the thing that's most impressive about the win for me. Under pressure from a guy that won the last 2 majors, and who was striking the ball very well, Day increased his overnight lead by one to win.

Hopefully, Day has a long and successful career.... unless he crashes his car after being chased by a golf club wielding Swedish former model... tongue.png
