Fuzz Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Montecristo No 2 Light Vs Dark Wrapper Comparison Montecristo No 2 Light Vs Dark Wrapper Part 2 Cohiba Robusto & Cohiba Maduro 5 Magicos Wrapper Exchange 2
gr8eman Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Even the bands in the second box have a different colour. They don't, it's just an optical illusion because the lighter wrapper color makes the red band seem not as dark. 1
gr8eman Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 Ive had plenty ugly ducklings turn into swans! I recently got a box of Connie 1s that have wrappers that look similar to the second box of P2s Rob posted. They (the Connie 1s) are older, 2011, and I am wondering if age has any effect on the wrapper color. I understand why Rob considers the darker wrappers higher quality, but is it possible that the wrappers were from a different supplier to the factory which cause them to have such a disparity? I am in the US and must buy blind, basically, as all I have to go on is box code and date. As a previous poster mentioned here, trust with your supplier is the best way to prevent getting bad or fake cigars, especially online. BTW the Connie 1s are USE box code which were once posted on this forum as crackers. Haven't smoked one yet so I'll keep an open mind.
shlomo Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 They don't, it's just an optical illusion because the lighter wrapper color makes the red band seem not as dark. Everything in the second pic is lighter. Wrapper, band, box....
SCgarman Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 2 boxes of RASS that I have. Bet you might think I prefer the darker box? Wrong. I prefer chestnut brown Colorado wrappers. Have no desire to smoke the dark wrappers as I am afraid what they might taste like and RASS is my favorite stick. Again like women, beer and other things some of us like them dark and some of us like them light.
ElPuro Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 While much is said about the positives of an oily wrapper, a buddy of mine insists that oily wrappers are an indication that the leaf was not fully fermented. I've seen this around on the 'net as well from some reputable sources. It's also said the more oily the wrapper, the longer humi time a cigar will need (and the poorer it will smoke ROTT). I am a newb, just repeatin' what I'd been told...
cpmurrin Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I had a bunch of boxes of 10 count P2s 3-4 years ago that had wrappers that looked like crap but smoked great. the yellow ones seem to always be bad though and those above are about as bad as can be imagined...

If I had to pick between oily and silky wrappers I would pick silky/velvet 100% of the time.
skalls Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I prefer the oily wrappers. I have found that they need a whole lot more time to acclimate to my humidor. Had some especially oily liga Privada 9s last year that took nearly 3 months before they were on point. My Lusitania's that I purchased in February weren't ready until late may.
joeypots Posted August 12, 2015 Posted August 12, 2015 I wouldn't get too exercised about wrapper color. The oil content or sheen, well, thats another matter.
El Presidente Posted August 12, 2015 Author Posted August 12, 2015 If I had to pick between oily and silky wrappers I would pick silky/velvet 100% of the time. They are not mutually exclusive
PapaDisco Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Those second P2s are damn near green! Yeah, I enjoy different shades of wrapper, from light to dark (glad I'm writing this instead of saying it! ), but will stay clear of ones with yellow or green hues. And dry wrappers to me have always presaged a cigar that will taste hot and dry whether it actually is or not. Silky and with sheen for me!
