bbguardsp Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 My current box of D4s (RAE OCT 14) has left me wanting in the spice department considering they should have more mongrel to them due to youth. So my question is what current CCs deliver the most pepper/spice on the pallet and nose at this time? Ill admit I have an affinity for nicaraguans so maybe my pallette is shot lol.
JohnS Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 The first thing I thought prior to reading your post and just reading the Topic title was 'Partagas'. I think Juan Lopez has some decent pepper/spice.
vavrekjjj Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 for me best pepper / spice are NC ( Jaime Garcia reserva especial , Oliva V belicoso, ... ) in that intensity there are not any CC which are close enough
jacksfull Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I'll throw out what may seem an unusual pick for pepper and spice... HUPC. To be fair, I'm basing this on a single cigar, first from my first ever box of them, LUB MAY 14 received only a few days ago from our gracious host. If I've had one before it was too long ago to even register. Maybe everyone but me knows to expect a powerhouse in these, or maybe it's just youth or an atypical box/crop/year/whatever. Nevertheless, I was surprised that it was as full and spicy as any Boli or Partagas I've had. Pure dynamite and I loved it!
PapaDisco Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I find the Hoyo Epi 2 to have more of a white pepper profile than the PSD 4 and a good alternative in that regard. Same format, spicier flavor but not mongrel.

garbandz Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Boli petit coronas and Upmann Connie 1s can have some spiciness, but nothing Cuban approaches the levels of pepper and spice in Nica sticks. Nicaraguans consist of totally different strains of tobacco, and are blended for the American market.
CaptainQuintero Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 The bolivar gold medals are the most pepper laden CC I've smoked, jalapenos all the way. Still plenty around currently as far as I know too
MrGTO Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 I do not miss the NC pepper&spice bombs you could season a steak with. I like a fresh rascc for spice, but don't wait too long to smoke them. I have a 13 box that is really smoothing out. 1
Orion21 Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Nothing in the CC lineup comes even close in the pepper and spice to the Sancho Panza Belicosos. They are exactly what you are looking for, no question.
ogus Posted August 4, 2015 Posted August 4, 2015 Get some fresh Partagas next year. The shorts, PSD4. NC Puro Authentico fits the bill.
Popular Post WarriorPrincess Posted August 5, 2015 Popular Post Posted August 5, 2015 I thought as soon as I read this title....ohhhh someone has written something nice about me My second thought was reading the title was someone has posted a BBQ recipe and I might try it tonight 5
MahDooRow Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 for me best pepper / spice are NC ( Jaime Garcia reserva especial , Oliva V belicoso, ... ) in that intensity there are not any CC which are close enough Someone at my local cigar shop recommended the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial. I bought 1 toro (6" x 54) and really enjoyed it. The pepper is light to medium, but very noticeable and very enjoyable. Overall it's a great full-bodied smoke, well constructed with an easy draw and a near perfect burn. I've since purchased about 10 more and will keep these in rotation.
El Presidente Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Bolivar Petit Corona (young). Partagas 898 V (young). Both have power and spice before levelling off after the first 12 months.
zeedubbya Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Part 898, Short, and BBF would fit bill for me. Young as Prez has said. Certain Padrons have so much spice and pepper in the nose it makes my eyes water. Still haven't decided if it's a good thing or not. 1
Bearclaw Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I smoked a BRC from late '14 last night and it shocked me with both palate and retrohale pepper and spice. They haven't all been so spicy, but wow this one was!
Bearclaw Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 You mentioned the D4- I would say the BRC had easily double the pepper/mongrel of similar aged D4's from my humi.
Orion21 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I mostly get a lighter white pepper from Cuban cigars vs the dramatic black pepper hit NC's are known for having. Apples and Oranges if you ask me. Appreciate the two approaches for what they are and choose what you like. Personally, I would rather brush my teeth with steel wool than ever smoke another LFD Chisel ever again, but that's just me
avaldes Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 For me the only cuban cigars that I have experienced black pepper spice is the Partagas Presidente and RyJ Belicoso. Mind you this was probably circa 2000 when I last smoked them. It really didn't do anything for me and haven't smoked either of them since.
