Coolio Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Yes, it does sound like I'm bagging England, it's understandable that they have achieved their goal and so it makes the 5th test less motivating then the 3rd and 4th. I guess I am lamenting the lack of a close contest and two sides capable of playing 'hard' test cricket like what I've enjoyed from watching Australia play since the late 80's until as recenly as 5 or 6 years ago. I think you've summed up my concerns well though Ken. Both sides have been very average if you compare the standard of play to what I have been accustomed to in the past, and I know Ken, as a fellow lover of test cricket, you know what I mean. John and Ken, I'm becoming disenchanted with cricket in general, mainly because it appears that the 'art; of Test match cricket is vanishing before our eyes. I sniggered in disgust in our first innings when Warner pulled a short ball from outside off stump for 4. It was the first boundary and I think around 11 overs had been bowled. Perfect shot for that ball. Prior to that ball both batsmen had been leaving what they should have, and were getting their eye in. And we weren't nearly all out like we were at Trent Bridge after that many overs. What did Mark Nicholas say in the commentary booth? Not "great shot". No. He said....... "and about time!" or...... "at last", or words to that effect. And there lies the problem with Test cricket today. If I could have selected our side for these Tests, I would have begged for AB, Glenn McGrath, Langer and a few others to come out of retirement. Border at 60yo would have lasted longer in the middle than some of these 20/20 minded players that currently wear the baggy green. All he would have had to do was shoulder arms for a few overs. I want to find a sport to follow that hasn't been bastardised in the pursuit to satisfy the Attention Deficit Disorder generation. 1
