LordAnubis Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 If you paid with paypal you can easily get your money back, it may take the PayPal 45 day time period or something though. If you paid via bank then they can easily refund the payment as well. Well i know the banks in Aus can do this very easily. Good luck mate! 1

LordAnubis Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 If you paid PayPal Friends and Family, you have no recourse! Really? I never knew that! Cheers for that.
El Presidente Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Rob, once this is confirmed, would you be OK with posting the user name so others are warned? If it is proven that a FOH member has been acting in a fraudulent manner then a general warning will be posted and of course a banning from the site. Simple duty of care. 3
Lotusguy Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 Really? I never knew that! Cheers for that. Yes, unfortunately true - so better to pay the extra 3% or so fee for a goods transaction. I have seen a few people get stuck with the loss on other forums after they paid F&F 1
RijkdeGooier Posted June 22, 2015 Author Posted June 22, 2015 As far as I know he is not a member of this forum. He does frequent many FB groups that we also visit.
Fosgate Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 That's pretty ballsy to use a personal profile on FB and cheat people there.
muzz Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 It always pays to do a small order when starting out with a new supplier to check that all is above board. I got done once last year with a supplier that was great for Australians for several years and then just ripped everyone off that dealt with them over about a 3 month period. Better to be out of pocket a small amount than let the Bandits get away with too much!
Sophistic Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 I'm puzzled how many people are still willing to transfer money to folks they've met on the internet. 2

There is a surefire way to make sure you don't get taken for money over the internet.... Just send me $5 and I'll send you the information! 8

I feel bad for the OP since he thought he was getting helped out, but I generally think it's best to only fork over money to people you know and trust. Otherwise, really, it's more like gambling. And I've done that before - taken a chance on something I knew was probably risky and got burned - but in those instances I never handed over more than I was willing to throw away. Will be interesting to see if anything comes of this, but as is often the case in these sorts of deals, I'm guessing it won't have a happy ending. ~ Greg ~ 1

Clearly you haven't had the good luck to have been contacted by a Nigerian prince in exile. I'm working a deal right now and for only $20,000 up front, he is going to split $50million with me!! Then I will have a standing order for what ever pops up on the 24:24 1
Fumadoro Posted June 22, 2015 Posted June 22, 2015 It is definitely a risky game buying cigars from individuals on the internet. I've never sent money and received nothing in return, but I have payed for fakes from individuals. I'll just leave this here for future use...http://www.scumbagslist.com/ 1

I recognize quite a few names from forums past...glad I never dealt with any of them!
Guyman1966 Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 Sorry to hear this story. I hear about many folks here who have family or friends in Cuba who can now bring back... only to get fakes. At least they get something to smoke.
RijkdeGooier Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 Thank you Fumadoro - I have added him to this list. Rob was kind enough to give me some guidance and since he is not a member here, I won't publish his name here Of course I can answer a PM 2

CanuckSARTech Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 There's a few others who could maybe go on that list.... Thankfully, the general cigar community has these kinds of activities happen less and less anymore.
shlomo Posted June 27, 2015 Posted June 27, 2015 There's a few others who could maybe go on that list.... Thankfully, the general cigar community has these kinds of activities happen less and less anymore. So add them to the list. That list has been helpful for years and years. If you know of a scumbag who has cheated others in the community, I feel like it is your duty and responsibility to add to the list to make sure he or she doesn't do it again. At least not easily. There are plenty of scum around cigar forums, facebook groups and the rest. I feel as if there are more and more, certainly not less and less.... 1

I guess it depends on if you have a glass-half-full or glass-half-empty outlook on life, as to whether one feels there's more or less. Also, my threshold level for scumbaggery is perhaps getting higher and higher. Work may be affecting that outlook.

It's about people who have stolen from others in the community. Facts, not opinions. If somebody has screwed you over, put him or her on the list! If it's just people who hurt your feelings, then that's not really the place for it. 1

Facts, not opinions. If somebody has screwed you over, put him or her on the list! If it's just people who hurt your feelings, then that's not really the place for it. You're the one who initially said "...If you know of a scumbag who has cheated others in the community, I feel like it is your duty and responsibility to add to the list to make sure he or she doesn't do it again..." So, I'm making reference to someone who has mildly slighted me (a few fraudulent sticks, versus passing off whole boxes of premium stuff), but had previously screwed over others worse. Bigger fish to fry, IMO. Yes, it's my judgement, my interpretation, my gut feeling, as to whether or not I decide to place that person on there, considering how bad I feel the offence was. Besides, the Scumbag list doesn't really help things generally, IMO. It's like online battle/flame zones and such - usually doesn't add anything to the individual benefit. Some us just choose to rise above it, rather than waste our time. And...I don't need someone else to tell me what is or isn't my duty or responsibility, LOL. 2
