I understand this forum is set up for all things habano, however....just lit up a pardon 1926 no.6 and I must say, WOW! Absolutely delightful! I have only in my short experience tried a few CCs, but this was great! Anyone else had similar experience with non Cubans?

Yes! Padron's 45th Anniversary Family Reserve, Oliva V Melanio, and Regius London Orchant Seleccion. Yes, there are a few Non-CC's out there that are right on par with some of the best Habanos available.

I actually smoke a fair amount of non-Cubans with the Cubans - I quite like Dominicans and Nicaraguans.

Non-Cubans are generally approachable fresh out of the box without requiring ageing. Also I find them to be more consistent overall in terms of construction. Works well to smoke the non-Cubans as you wait for the Cubans to get some age.

Agreed. Absolutely fantastic stick (my pref is the maduro).

I find Tatuaje to be the most enjoyable of the NC I've tried. People love liga, warped, Romacraft but they just don't speak to me as do the Tats and the Padron. Caveat, I have two Opus resting for about two months now from two generous BOTLs from another board. I'll post back here soon on that.

The last NC I smoke, Fuente Don Carlos, reiterated the reason why I don't buy NCs anymore. In fact, after that smoke I sold off all my remaining NCs and was able to bring in enough funds for 2 boxes of my favorite Cubans. To each their own I guess. I'm exclusively in the CC camp.

I think my inventory has gone from 7 or 8% NC cigars to about 3% in the last few months. Still, a Padron 1926 No.6...I would be happy to try it!

Greetings Turbo and welcome to FOH. Many here smoke a variety of cigars from various provenances yet, as you noted, are more oriented to the Habanos. There are some stellar non-Cuban cigars once you get past the hype.

Take a moment an introduce yourself in the Newbie forum http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showforum=6 and stick around. Lots to learn here.

Tatuaje is another NC I find enjoyable. Haven't tried the Opus yet, a little pricey!

To me, the Fuente Don Carlos, with the Cameroon wrapper, are an excellent enough NC cigar to keep me a fan. What I've found that have really never tickled my fancy were the Fuente Opus X's. I mean they are definitely quality, premium smokes. But they just do NOTHING for me. And I've tried them numerous times through the years.

Yep, love some NC's.

I enjoy Padrons, Oliva Serie V and Serie V Melanio, Room 101 to name a few.

Starting out here in the US has you picking up NCs obviously, and I'd still say my collection is probably 30% cuban / 70% non-cuban, though I certainly enjoy both. We'll see how I progress as I continue exploring Cuba, really only dipped my toes in and have enjoyed it so far!

I'm about 60/40 CC/NC, and I don't think I'll ever completely abandon the NCs. I'm not a big Opus fan, nor do I smoke many Padrons (price keeps me away from their better stuff). But I do smoke quite a few Tats, Crowned Heads, My Father, and some other Fuente stuff. I enjoy Ligas, but not enough to justify their prices. I also like the Herrera Esteli line. Probably 90% of the NC's I enjoy are Nicaraguan.

I find absolutely everything about non cuban cigars to be second rate and inferior. One of the biggest and most obvious attributes to me is the visual and textural quality of cuban tobacco compared to Nicaraguan, Dominican, Honduran, etc. Cuban tobacco just has a more supple, vibrant, elastic-like feel to it....almost like it's still alive whereas noncuban tobacco has a very hard, almost cast-like texture to it, very "dead" in both visual and to the touch.

For a long time, whenever someone would bring up the subject of non cuban cigars, I'd always list off my favorites that I deemed to be worthy of my tastes, even though cubans were my preferred cigar. But as time has passed and I find I have all the Davidoffs and Opus that I will ever need in my humidor, I just can't reconcile spending good money on cigars that I don't like nearly as much as I like your average cuban cigar.

Cubans just are a much better investment in value and time and it's very hard, no make that impossible to like something and keep coming back to it when your experiences have been with better products.

Today, I dislike everything about any noncuban cigar from the ignorant statements put out by their manufacturers to the owners of American B&M's, to the truly second rate quality and texture of the tobacco used in any non cuban cigar I've ever come across, even Padrons (very unidimensional and gangbang-your-face-strong), to Davidoffs (any of them just dry, acrid, mushroomy, acidic tobacco), to OpusX (again, one of the very, very few noncubans that uses very good texture/quality tobacco but just boring when compared to even average cuban cigars).

So to me, even though I don't retch and vomit when smoking a decent noncuban cigar, I find them boring and a complete waste of good money that could be spent on cigars I deem to be the best in the world. I think with the Internet opening up the opportunities to be able to access cuban cigars even more today than 5 years ago, alot of cigar smokers are figuring out that alot of what they've been told by people like their local B&M owners, Pete Johnson, Jack Torano, etc. were just complete outright lies and it pisses them off and makes you not want to spend your money with them even more. It makes them look like the insecure boy at the party who badmouths the best looking boy their in front of the girls because he's jealous and afraid they're going to see the intrinsic value of the better quality product.

Wow.

I should have prefaced this with the caveat that I don't and haven't smoked other cigars outside of cuban cigars for close to 5 years now so I'm probably not the best person to be opining on products that I don't have recent experience with. Nor do I wish to start renewing my experience with them. So I apologize if my opinions were to forward or brash for anyone.

There are some great NCs out there. I have a bunch that just don't get the love from me that they deserve. From time to time I light one up and remember how nice they can be.

Don Carlos was my favorite NC many years ago. Cameroon was my favorite wrapper. Partagas NC were very good back then too.

Yeah I'd say I'm a fan of Nicaraguan leaf,in terms of those that I've tried,at least. The Oliva V being a definite,if fairly obvious favourite.Fair enough, they don't possess the subtlety, nuance and variation that comes from the best of Cuba but they're damn tasty and very rarely let you down in terms of their construction and appearance.I like the Serie O Oliva too,a much more toned down, sweeter and creamier option in their line.

Fuente opus x, Padron 64/26's, Don Pepin Garcia/My Father's, Davidoff to name a few. Country of origin doesn't matter to me, a good blend is a good blend.
