she should go to jail for a very long time.

but what staggers me is the report at the end about the other parents who dropped their kid into a wild dog enclosure, the poor kid got killed, and they sued the zoo!!

beyond comprehension.

very frustrating that they say it was settled without giving an indication of which way. and why aren't those parents in jail?

Zoo officials in Cleveland say a woman was dangling her two-year-old son over a railing when he fell about 10ft (three metres) into a cheetah exhibit.

Cleveland Metroparks zoo says the toddler’s parents jumped in and pulled him to safety Saturday afternoon.

The zoo’s executive director says the cheetahs didn’t go toward the boy or his parents and that several eyewitnesses saw the woman holding the child over the railing.

Zoo officials say the boy hurt his leg in the fall. Cleveland fire department spokesman Larry Gray says the toddler was treated for bumps and bruises at a hospital.

The zoo says Cleveland Metroparks plans to seek child endangering charges against the mother.

In 2012, a similar incident at a Pittsburgh zoo left a two-year-old boy dead. The child was fatally mauled after falling into a wild African dogs exhibit.

The boy had lunged from his mother’s grasp. He fell about 10ft (three metres) from the top of a wooden railing into the enclosed exhibit below.

The boy’s parents sued the zoo, saying it had been warned about other parents who routinely lifted children on to the railing. The zoo countersued, arguing the boy’s mother was to blame for his death, because she lifted him atop the railing so he could get a better look into the exhibit.

The legal dispute was settled last year.

The stupidity of some people is astonishing. What makes it worse is the ridiculous law suits that are filed and payout. Im sure everyone has heard of some stupid case whereby the idiot got paid out a massive sum.

Oh my. I think I had best just keep the biggest part of what I would like to say to myself.

But I will say she does not deserve to have children.

I think you should have to get a license for the upbringing of children.

I my self do not have any kids but it seems to me to be reasonably straight forward, and a large component would appear to be COMMON SENSE.apparently some people do not posses this.

if I was to bring up a child there of course would be love, but also morality, teach right from wrong, try to raise them to be a better Human being than your self (which in my case wouldn't be difficult lol3.gif .just kidding )

And above all RESPECT in all its forms

With parents like these and others worse we are quickly hurtling to the lowest common denominator

cheers all just my 2.c

for me, the only thing worse than having idiots like these have kids would be having bureaucrats deciding if idiots like these should have kids.

but humanity is already so stuffed it does not matter, and this is just sending us down the spiral even quicker.

If I was the zoo, I would have countersued the parents for giving the wild dogs indigestion and causing mental stress. I mean, c'mon. The wild dogs probably have never had a meal that screamed at them.

I know I'd be stressed if my steak started screaming at me.

Every time I've been to the Zoo I have seen signs clearly state.

Please do not feed the animals.

Not having the benefit of both sides of the story, I can only say this a tragic end. But there is is always multiple sides... Tragic none the less...

I can say so much on this but will refrain other than to say that there are many people out there that SHOULDN'T be parents.

Agreed !!! I Myself being a father of three could not imagine doing this . Reminds me of the time when Michael Jackson dangalled his kis kid over a balcony rail.mob.gif

Wow, zero compassion these days. I have lifted my nephews and nieces to get better views of stuff as I am certain all of you have done with your own children. Sometimes they lunge and I barely am able to react quickly enough to catch them.

Nobody knows how the parents were holding the kid, except for one witness, and that witness just went through a huge shock and moments of terror, but everybody knows the parents jumped in without concern for their own safety and rescued the toddler. That last part is more telling than the ambiguous first.....

If you can't hold onto the kid when lunging/wriggling/whatever don't pick him up by a pit of carniverous animals/big drop/meat grinder! Pretty obvious, so no, zero compassion for them here either.

Parent of two (9mth and 2.5yr olds) and I make sure to have a solid grip even just carrying them round the house!

Also - "several eyewitnesses saw the woman holding the child over the railing."

sorry shlomo. sure, pick up the kid. hold him for a better look. but NOT over the railing. i don't believe you'd do that. or anyone sane would do that. the fall alone could have killed the kid.

Hard to know where the line is imo. On top is ok, or not? Completely over would be bad, just above good?

I dont know, I dont just jump up and down screaming that these are shitty parents based on one incident. Benefit of the doubt and such...

I took my little ones to the San Diego Zoo (awesome zoo by the way) and we went to look at the lions. One of the female lions was sitting on a large rock about 30-35 feet away and was staring at my kids, intently following them with her eyes. This went on for a couple minutes and it was creepy. It made me so uneasy that I felt more comfortable moving on to the next animal. I know that we were safe, but it didn't feel that way. I don't understand how you could even consider dangling your kid over the fence.

I would say that dropping their kid in the animals area = crappy parent

Jumping in and getting their kid out = some redemption and less crappy

Either way, I don't envy them for the position of now having the government involved in every step of how they raise their kids.

Shlomo is right, the more I think about this. Let he who's never done any stupid thing he wishes to God he could take back cast the first stone. A wise man once said that, or something like it. I'll bet these parents are sick to death about what they have done.

Sure lift your kid up. But not over the railing, not on the railing. I lifted my kids up and held them on my hip, a step or two back from the railing. That 1 or 2 feet closer is not going to make a difference in their view.

She should be put in jail, and the father should also be charged for letting it happen.

So then in addition to having been severely injured and nearly killed, the kid's mother also gets sent away to prison for a few years, and that makes it better? For who? The kid?? I somehow doubt that the woman is a danger to the rest of society.
