Popular Post El Presidente Posted April 1, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 1, 2015 Di and I walked and walked and walked this city. I can tell you from a city perspective it is not the easiest to get around if walking as you need to navigate the crowded broken footpaths and the road crossings....each road crossing requires an adventurous spirit and both timing and cojones! We walked 17 kilometers yesterday and close to 10 today (so far). Still, the best way of getting a vibe for a place is to ditch the cabs and just walk...stick your nose in every nook and cranny, stop for a wine/beer....a bite to eat and keep on walking! From the majestic hotel yesterday we walked to Shri rooftop restaurant where we took in the view and had a great Vietnamese light dinner. We headed back into AB tower post and ensconsed ourselves into a local bar and listened to a filipino band doing some truly woeful 80's and 90's classics We shopped a little this morning for family and friends before heading to what is becoming our favourite local watering hole in Mogambo which is owned and run by the "unique" hostess "lani" We had a some excellent burgers for which the bar is famous and a healthy helping of cold beer and screwdrivers (Di). Lani and her husband ken sat with us and kept us thoroughly entertained before pointing Di in the direction of some great shopping. I could have done without it but alas....it is part of the price I pay They introduced me to some of the best Chili sauce I have come across! Mid afternoon here and i am at the lovely SIQAR cigar lounge drinking a bottle of red and .....wait for it...smoking a 15 year old Gurkha Cellar Reserve ....I have a rule in Cigar lounges when I travel...just smoke what they have and recommend. The staff here are great and i can't fault the wine. I will do more of a write up on SIQAR in the next few days but thankyou lads for a wonderful time. No major mishaps so far. We are having a wonderful time but looking forward to the beach resort at Hoi An where we are headed tomorrow for a week. i weighed myself upon arrival in Saigon and was happy to have reached my goal weight of 88kg. I reckon I have put on 4 kilos since being here Travel really is a wonderful thing. Travelling with an adventurous spirit in Asia brings the best of $1 street meals, smiles a plenty from locals as well as many opportunities to hit out at 5* establishments. Di and I always feel comfortable in both. The combination of old and the new in Asia really is brilliant 14
Ubergosupro69 Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 Awesome to hear you're having fun. Too true about walking all day in a city, when your legs get tired just stop for a beer or two

JohnS Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 You both look fantastic! I can't help but smile when I see those pictures. I agree as this is what I thought too. I'm glad to see you both so relaxed! Rob, as for the weight thing, I wouldn't sweat it. As you know, I trimmed down a lot in 2013/14 but have managed to keep it off, however the last week has seen a few celebrations of the BBQ kind and I've noticed that eating meat has seen my weight vary across a few days from 85.5 kg, 84.9 kg and 83.9 kg. I figured that this was because one's digestive system takes time to break down those 'heavier' foods, especially if you don't commonly eat them. The key for me is to continue to rehydrate myself with water to allow my digestive system to break down my meals and not store what I eat as fat. Mate, get those bottled waters into you, drink as you walk around Saigon in the day and I assure you that your weight will even out. It will also moderate your appetite in the evenings better.
