Borgy Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I just had Liga Undercrown and I tried to wipe the stub on white linen and also wet it further and could not get any colouring of it.
Drguano Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 Personally, I am happy to select a stogie and smoke it. If it sucks, I pitch it and select another. Occasionally they are plugged or have wonky burns but that is the nature of hand made cigars. I applaud your efforts to establish standards but Cuba is Cuba...
Puros Y Vino Posted March 31, 2015 Posted March 31, 2015 I just picked up a partial box of Padron 1964 Exclusivos and FWIW, there's a hand written insert noting the "Bonchero" & "Rolera". I'll post a photo later.

I can see the merit of this practice for the maker, but not for the end user, unless you can go to your B&M and ask specifically for a box rolled by X, or with Y credited as the bonchero… Can you do that? (I suppose the bonchero is the person who selects the leaves, and is responsible for maintaining the blend)

(I suppose the bonchero is the person who selects the leaves, and is responsible for maintaining the blend) I'd agree. This might be more for the maker in terms of quality control. But if the purchaser or B&M loses that insert card. and it is small. It does them no good. I suppose if you have a good relationship with your B&M they can check for a box that matches the names on your previous boxs' tag.

(I suppose the bonchero is the person who selects the leaves, and is responsible for maintaining the blend) I think some NC companies make cigars in teams of two, one person exclusively bunches (bonchero?) and places the bunches into the moulds and presses, the second person rolls those into finished cigars. Maybe this is what is happening here?
KoreanCowboy Posted April 1, 2015 Posted April 1, 2015 There are actually quite a few manufacturers that dye their wrapper leaves to make them a "MADURO". It's usually the low end manufacturers that do it. It's unfortuante that they do this. As for Liga Privada, no dyes used. Their wrapper leaves are fermented and dried for 18 months before being used. The extra fermenting time is what makes them so dark. They are very transparent about the process and it can be seen in person and on YouTube videos.
Puros Y Vino Posted April 7, 2015 Posted April 7, 2015 I promised a pic of a similar label. This is from a box of Padron 1964 Anniversary Exclusivo Maduro. The Bonchero is named as is the Rolero. The "N" must be product line. In this case Exclusivo. There is a date stamp. "I04 MAR" Don;t know how to read this. March 2004. March 04, ????
