Glad I beat the rush.....barely!

Well at least it will be easier than last time perhaps. Less expensive, doesn't look like it.

The article says,

Officially, US travellers are still not allowed to enter the country as tourists but it is now possible to visit Cuba without having to apply for a special licence and wait for government approval.

Does this mean, anyone in the US can go without a special permit?

Americans can't go as tourists but they can go under the 12 reasons listed below. Do you qualify?

1. Family visits

2. Official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments, and certain intergovernmental organizations

3. Journalistic activity

4. Professional research and professional meetings

5. Educational activities

6. Religious activities

7. Public performances, clinics, workshops, athletic and other competitions, and exhibitions

8. Support for the Cuban people

9. Humanitarian projects

10. Activities of private foundations or research or educational institutes

11. Exportation, importation, or transmission of information or information materials

12. Certain export transactions that may be considered for authorization under existing regulations and guidelines.

Nice about more flights being added. Not a lot has changed other than that.,You could declare your own general license before December.

It depends on your definition of "public performances" in #8

I think you have to have a receipt, but I'm sure that could be worked out...........

Sounds like this could potentially reduce travel time for Aussies, assuming you want to fly to Cuba as direct as possible without stopovers to break up the trip.

Does this mean Aussies could fly from Melbourne/Sydney into NY and then catch a connection into Havana?

I believe this flight by Sun Country Airlines is classified as a charter. A travel company has sold a package (ala Apple Vacations) and is farming out the transport to an airline, so you probably can't buy an individual seat, but by all means might be able to purchase the package.

EDIT: Just re-read the article and it does say the travel company is selling seats. Interesting.
