NweakO
So I was at a "smoking lounge" with a couple of mates enjoying our cigars and the owner of the place comes up to us and asks us politely if we could smoke outside. He literally said the other customers are worried for their health! Heh, I don't think I have ever been so speechless. Everyone was smoking like a chimney. Had he said the smell was too strong, I would have understood. Anyways, what would you do in such a situation?
LordAnubis
Take your business elsewhere from now on and encourage all the other smokers you know to go elsewhere as well.
Ginseng
So I was at a "smoking lounge" What exactly do the quotes imply? Was this not a bona fide cigar/smokers' lounge? Take your business elsewhere from now on and encourage all the other smokers you know to go elsewhere as well. There you go. Wilkey
NweakO
It is just me saying what kind of a smoking lounge doesn't appreciate cigars.

wabashcr
I think in any circumstance, if anyone politely asks you to extinguish or take your cigar elsewhere, for any reason, the gentlemanly thing to do is comply. My right to smoke doesn't supersede anyone's right to clean air. I may ask myself why someone who is bothered by cigar smoke would patronize a smoking lounge, but I certainly wouldn't argue, especially if the owner of said lounge asked me to smoke outside.
cigarbreak
I'm more inclined to act like an a-hole because it is a smoking lounge after all. As an ex cigarette smoker of 12 and some odd years, if you're in a lounge or 'smoking' area, then its fair game unless the business puts up a sign no cigar smoking. Then of course you must respect that. It's like the other smokers are saying please move your smoke because its more smokey than ours. What a crock. In your case I would have been a bit more difficult especially if you are patrons who have already paid into your stay there. IMO Gentlemen shi* only need apply if you were in a public area and someone asked you politely to move away a bit or take the cigar elsewhere.

forgop
When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was going to be about something else. I work in critical care, so I was going to say it's not the cigarette smokers that are the "healthy" ones. I have yet to run across someone who is in critical care because they smoke cigars. But if you smoke cigarettes for years, drink a lot of alcohol/use street drugs, or don't control your blood sugar, odds are I'll get to know you. muzz
I'm from Australia so am fairly used to this attitude and I don't really feel comfortablre at many places lighting up a cigar. I would move as requested, finish my cigar and not spend another cent in the place.

It's only awkward when your sister-in-law asks you and your two brother-in-laws to move at your family christmas party because the smoke is bothering her. It's not like you have the choice of not speaking to her again!

polarbear
The exact same thing once happened to me I was in the outdoor smoking area of a pub and the manager told me to put out my cigar cause the table full of Winfield Blue smokers behind me didn't like the smell. I politely asked him where the "cigar smoking area" of this smoking area was and said I was happy to move there He replied that there wasn't one, just a smoking area, then he blinked at me for a few second (obviously thinking about what he just said) and then left without saying another word In other situations my reaction usually depends on where I am, what mood I'm in and how much longer I have to go with my cigar Sometimes its telling the manager that last I checked, smoking areas were for all smokers, not just coffin nails Sometimes I tell the manage to get [moderated] and wait til the bouncers ask me to leave Sometimes I put out the cigar, but never go back there again Sometimes I'll walk over to the table who complained, with my cigar in hand, and apologise for the smell, explain that I'm indulging in a little 'me time' and that I simply cant put the cigar out and hope to come back to it later. I often find this approach seems to work best
cigcars
I guess the best thing to do would be to open my (or our) own smoking allowed facility and LOUDLY ADVERTISE EVERYTHING OF A SMOKING NATURE allowed. So if any Prissy von Wimpies wanna complain about my cigar smoke, then go get management who will tell Prissy von W to TAKE A HIKE and vamose if he/she don't like it. ALL SMOKING of every smoking material (short of 'funny weed' until it is legal) is allowed in here. "I don't like your cigar smoke!" "Then go home"

Bulldog4
its like that here in vancouver too. we live on a god damn coastline if i want to respectfully smoke my cigars at the beach ie away from children and pregnant women. Then i should be able to, the best one ive had is a 30 something couple walk by me well i smoked saying very loudly how much it stank then walked one more bench down where a man was smoking the wacky tabac and i hear mmm that smells so nice compared to the cigar. are you kidding me? ill take my cigar smell over skunk any day but hey what can you do?
