El Presidente Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I saw on my order sheets that Sancho Panza Molinos were available. I have put in my order (mid August arrival) but it got me to wondering. I have always loved the SP Molinos and it was a cigar through the 90's that I counted as in my personal top 5. It was all a Lonsdale should be, kaleidoscope of flavours: vanilla, floral/flowers/ touch of saltiness. They went off the rails (for me) in the darkness of 98/99. It suffered along with other lonsdales in the construction stakes and while I did put my hands on some great boxes in the years post, they continued to suffer in the main and I fell out of love. I have no idea what the box codes are or if they are decent again but I am intrigued as to how your most recent smoking experiences of the Molinos have been and your most recent years? Cheers
leftimatic Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I cant say I've ever had one, but is there a chance of getting on a waiting list to get a box? 1
melies Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Don't remember my boxes codes, but they are from mid 2000. They have been absolutely great each and everyone. An elegant cigar with class and flavor. For me they have certain saltines that reminds me of jabugo ham.
ChanceSchmerr Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 I'd be interesting in picking up a box when you do get them in, Rob. Last one for me was about 4 months back or so, I picked up a couple aged (1997 or 1998 I believe) Molinos from JJ Fox here in London. Smoked one, and was met with smatterings of cream and salt, and some toasted tobacco notes, but you're right in that it wasn't a great year for them, as overall the cigar was somewhat muted. I didn't particularly enjoy that one but I am still keen to get a box of more recent production. I have enjoyed some good examples from the last decade or so, before they were discontinued. They definitely need a close inspection before picking them up LOL
Smallclub Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 I have had a box from 1998 that was one of the best box of lonsdales I've ever purchased. Very "leathery" but not precisely "salted".
Habana Mike Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Funny you ask, I just smoked one a couple of days ago. ABR JUL11 Very nice wood, toasty, touch of leather, salt and baking spice. A bit left of medium with a dry mouthfeel. Being dc'ed and enjoyable enough, I'd go for more at the right price.
CaptainQuintero Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 That would be incredible news if they are doing a limited run of new production.
DWC Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 My CC mentor recommended these to me so it started me searching. A benevolent BOTL sold me 1/2 a box from '98 The previous descriptions sound about right for what I tasted from the first one (only one) I've smoked so far. Toasted tobacco, light leather, light saltiness and subtle chocolate maybe. Fairly mild. I can see the floral/flowers description if it was fresher maybe? Good morning cigar. I would love to taste what a fresh one is like. Put me on the waiting list for a box when they come in please. :-) -Dan
Habana Mike Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Wanted to try some but can't find any Send me your address Nick. You will
Habana Mike Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 That would be incredible news if they are doing a limited run of new production. Doubt it's new production, most likely surplus as the can still be found on the primary market 1
Smallclub Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 Being dc'ed and enjoyable enough, I'd go for more at the right price. Price is the key. When I discovered this cigar it was by far the cheapest lonsdale in Europe (about 3 Euros in Spain - and 4 euros for the Rafael Gonzales lonsdale). I like it but it's miles away from the richness of a Partagas, SLR or Bolivar lonsdale. 1
JohnS Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 After today's 24:24 sale and immediate excitement from our members (it didn't take long to sell out), I was curious to find out more, especially as the flavour profile (salt, leather, floral and cream) was so unique. I was surprised to find out that it was listed as discontinued on Cuban Cigar Website from 2012, so I'm eager to see what shipment comes in for mid-August for you, Rob. Incidentally, the boxcode for today's listing for these SP Molinos is ABR OCT 2011.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 The non plus is a decent alternative if you missed they boat on these in general. Less balanced but with a little rest they fill the void 2
ogus Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 The 2011 stock you are selling is highly recommended. On my second box now.
