Your preference as to when to smoke Limited Editions (Ageing)

This is a difficult and possibly unfair question as it encompasses a wide range of product from 2000 on. Still I have an opinion as no doubt you do. Let's explore them.

What we are seeking here is a "General" guideline from members who have sampled LE's from various yeas over time.

I've only smoked EL's from 2007 onwards. My preference runs twofold, smoke them immediately upon release for up to 4-6 months then they need to be put away and again good from 2 years. I still think my Escudos and Regalos from 2007 are smoking pretty well...

I will usually sample a EL every 6 months from a box, unless there Montecristo ELs, then once per year.

Monte's need at least 3-5 years to hit their stride.

For me the HDM 03 Pyramids were great cigars with 5 years of age on them. After that they were still good, but just lost their mojo some. The box of 2004 Partagas Serie D 1s still have some legs on them, but I will start smoking more regularly now, especially with the weather starting to turn for the better.

My 2009 Dukes are flat and boring.....were outstanding young.........should have smoked them all then. Raises a good question. Some members with some large bank of LE's sitting in their humi's.

Depends on the Marca

Usually I go with 3-5 years, but hold a few over past that, just to see what happens

The Partagas and Cohiba LEs tend to have better legs for long term aging (5-10) in my experience

I voted 1-3, as that seems to be the deciding time if you happen to find one you like and want to buy it before it becomes a Chinese delicacy.

No offense intended, but merely speaking on trends

1-3 years seems to be the sweet spot

I recently tried on of my 2009 Mag 48's. It was good but I honestly thought it can use some more time. it still was a little rough around the edges and can use some smoothing out. I think Im going to let them age another 4 years, but might try one a year to see how they are doing.

I just ordered the 2013 HDM grand epicures from a 24:24 last week, does anyone have some anecdotal evidence of their sweet spot?

Maybe I have no taste but I smoke my ELs pretty young. I worked through a box of Mag 48 EL09 and they spent around a year in the humidor as I smoked the. I also enjoyed a Grand Epi EL13. Plus the Boli SC EL14s are amazing. I do think the next three years will do them no harm but I am fine with young.

I would say 6 months is a good start then just let them age on the rate you burn them.

Perhaps I have just had bad luck but LEs have lost a lot of "character" after the 3 year mark for me. So I tend to smoke them a bit younger these days. Most of my regular production stock have fared better and have aged marvelously at 5+ years
