El Presidente Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 I will be in london 11th to 15th of June. Will be heading to AMICIGAR event on the Amalfi Coast (looking forward to it very much!) from 4th to 8th of June and then onto Amsterdam for ShooAway business 9th and 10th.....then London. I have a lit of bit of work to do in london on the 11th, the 12th I am locked into a function, keeping the 13th free (Saturday) and looking to catch up with FOH locals. I am thinking a looooooong lunch? Would love to get some ideas from the UK crew as to the best place for a Long cigar lunch drifting into the evening. Also recommendations as to a reasonably good hotel close to JJfox etal. Look forward to catching up!
monkey66 Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Hotels. 10 Manchester St or the Wellesley spring to mind. Of course if the weather is good many options for a herf. Will put our thinking caps on. Nb Hunters summer party on the 19th if you can stretch that long.

ChanceSchmerr Posted March 2, 2015 Posted March 2, 2015 Rob, I can't speak to hotels close to JJ Fox, as that is Mayfair - and my CC doesn't have enough zeros available for that part of town LOL! We stayed in Montague on the Gardens near the British Museum and it was a wonderful "classic british" hotel with a great Cigar patio in the back. Monkey's right, there are lots of herf possibilities. Wellesley was a great patio for sure, and the food I had was great.
LordAnubis Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 ChanceSchmer, your "Nachos" from the Wellesley was f#$%ing 7 doritos with a bit of lobster meat on it. Seriously everyone... SEVEN!!!! It did look good though Rob, I have no idea about hotels either, There are plenty of hotels in that area, The Ritz is the closest I would imagine. How much you want to spend on a bed for the night is another story all together though. Foxy would be the best person for recommendations. Also the thing to remember is public transport is very good. You don't have to be close to the shop, just close to a train station that is preferably on the same line. You can save yourself a lot of pounds I imagine. As for herfing, i'm sure the boys will take you around. 10 Manchester St was the home ground for FoH herfs, but they have recently brought in rules that their cigar terrace doesn't stay open past 21:00. The FOH home ground will now change to The Mayfair hotel I believe. The Mayfair hotel has a nice Terrace. nice and big, a bit chilly in the winter but that's expected. Comfy seats. Minimum spend of 25 pounds but again easy to ring up for you I imagine. Their cigar list is actually reasonably priced for London standards. Never seen the quality though, maybe you can ask them for some PSP It's close to JJ Fox, about a 5 minute walk away if that. Bvulgari is a good lounge, but you can only smoke what you buy from there, it's almost across the road from Harrods, on the same train line as JJFox (but JJFox also has a shop inside Harrods itself). The Wellesley was a great smoking terrace. Nice and relaxing for a small group of people. You can smoke your own cigars you just pay a minimum spend (25 pounds) which will be easy to rack up if you get a few drinks. While you can't have a group herf there or anything, I recommend you go to the Dunhill store which is on the same street as JJ Fox, just down the road at the corner (when coming out of JJ Fox, turn left out of the door (as if you are walking away from the Ritz). Tom and Rob there are great guys and it's a nice shop. You can smoke in their lounge as well but of course you have to smoke something you buy from them. Also Ajays is a good place to go if you have the time. It's about 1.5 hours on a train to get out there, but good bloke to chat to and have a smoke with! Also go to TomToms cigar shop. I mean the shop is alright nothing too exciting, but that's a nice neighbourhood. Across the road from the cigar shop is a café. Buy a random cigar from the TomToms (or not, whatever) sit down in the café get a coffee and a sandwich and do some people watching and watch the Bentley's and Rolls Royces drive by. Its just nice and relaxing. In June it should be nice and warm hopefully As for a good meal near JJ Fox, The Wolesley is right across the road from The Ritz and is a good feed. Lastly the thing to remember with London is the difference between a "Lounge" and a "Terrace". A Lounge is completely indoors. You are allowed to smoke in any indoor lounge, or even cigar store, this falls under "sampling law". You are allowed to "sample" a cigar inside a shop or lounge but can obviously only sampel the products that you purchase from the store. A "Terrace" is any area that is not indoors. Essentially it will be a patio with a few pieces of shade cloth on one section of wall to make it not "enclosed". These terraces you can bring your own cigars and smoke as many of your own as you want, they just normally charge a minimum spend per person. Minimum spends are easy to ring up if you have a few drinks. Not so easy if you're like me and order 2 sprites Closer to the date get in touch with Tino, MrDowse, ChanceSchmerr and JoeyGunz. Those boys will sort you out
spirit Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Sounds like a nice little trip. If the timing works, I'd love to get into London to join in a bit of a herf. Can only echo the above thoughts on hotels, sommewhere like 10 Manchester Street sounds ideal for what you need.

Keep your eyes open
Tino Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Great news Rob! The 13th June is in the diary. Is Diana accompanying you? I only ask because Christian Louboutin is on the same street as Sautter I believe Mr Fox uses a couple of St James Clubs for his sleeping requirements, otherwise, in that area a good option is: http://www.dukeshotel.com/index.php They also make the best Martinis in London and have a cigar garden. Very happy to suggest long lunch venues for the 13th, I'll think of a few options

It did look good though Yeah, but they were Delicious Lobster Nachos! So what if I actually expected more than 7 bloody crisps..... The important thing was the endless Cashew mix and Olives! 1
in0gravity Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 When I am in London I am staying at the Mayfair Hotel on Stratton Street. It is walking distance (maybe 5 min) to St. James's Street. You actually walk past the Davidoff of London shop as well. Also the Dunhill 1a St. James's Street shop is also close by. Restaurants, if you like steak Goodmans on Maddox Street is the place to be. Not smoker friendly but the food is outstanding. Another choice is Boisdale. Which is smoker friendly. regards Lars
MrDowse Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Damn. I'm flying out to Menorca with the family for 2 weeks on the 13th. Will be sorry to miss this
monkey66 Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 To be clear there is no shortage of Hotels or restaurants in London Another consideration for a hotel is The Stafford. Outside smoking area and on St James.
in0gravity Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 To be clear there is no shortage of Hotels or restaurants in London so true
El Presidente Posted March 3, 2015 Author Posted March 3, 2015 Cheers Gents. Will book the accom today. Let's flesh out a spot for the Saturday lunch. i will liaise with Foxy/John De Costa Looking forward to meeting up!
Philski Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 There's a handy hotel half way down Jermyn Street that'll be faaar cheaper than the Wellesley, Ritz etc. - why spend a fortune on a hotel room that you'll probably spend most of your time asleep in? I've had a few and can't be arsed to look it up, won't be hard to Google though. There's only one hotel on J. St. The area around Victoria Station is going to be your best shout if you want value for money. Places like the Wellesley, No.10 Manchester St, Boisdale etc. are obvious luncheon spots though! I'm keeping my powder dry
Coloniales Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Hunters and Frankau have a release party for their 225 Anniversary RA on the 19th of June?? How about a layover in Dubai on your way over or way back mate!??? Free accommodation ;-) cigars, fishing, booze. Keith.
Styler Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 If you've not booked already then I like to stay at the below when in London. Great location near sights, restaurants and a tube station. They also have the Sky Lounge which is a rooftop bar with heated smoking areas. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London - Tower of London7 Pepys Street, London, EC3N 4AF,United KingdomTEL: +44-207-7091000
Hohenthal Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I'm around for a concert on the 18th, if by some chance I can make it a few days prior to that I would love to join in. Cheers, Alex
Ryan Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I wish I was around for this, to head over and back that Saturday/Sunday but I'm already out of the country that Saturday. Rob, contact Rob and get it arranged. I would think that Stuart would be eager to know about this too. Have a great time. And yes, Rob Ayala, London is one of those cities where you might actually have to get on a train!
El Presidente Posted March 4, 2015 Author Posted March 4, 2015 I don't like crowds. I can't do public transport 1
ChanceSchmerr Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Yeah....best to stay off the tube from 8-10 am......and 4-7 pm....and the lunch rush.........Y'know, best just to stay off the tube entirely
