jdackerman Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 Hey all! I know that collectively you all have more cigar knowlage than any book/website could ever contain and I get the impression that you enjoy a bit of a challenge as well. Backstory: I helped my father reorganize and clean up his humidors and he gave me a number of cigars. Most of which he has no idea when he bought or what most of them are. He almost always removed labels so that he could get them by customs so he's now left with a lot of unlabeled cigars. AFAIK he hasn't bought any more cubans since around 2006-2007 so all of these should be from before that time. Some are very obvious what they are bc they still have labels. I took the below pic with all of them organized by size. It's the smaller ones that I'm confused by. I assumed that any unlabeled cigars are cuban so I put all of them in the photo. Any help would be MUCH appreciated! 2
MrGTO Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I'll have to smoke them to tell you with any certainty.
Ginseng Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 The unbanded ones...well, there's no way to tell what those are. Based on size, we could tell you what they could be, but not what they are. If he bought them at duty free or at an LCDH, they'll be genuine. And if they were kept in good condition, I'd smoke them and enjoy them. Wilkey
garbandz Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 lovely problem to have........since they are that old, some are probably discontinued, and some current. Does not matter, smoke and enjoy........... 1
teyreborn Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 what are the odds of that being a Davidoff from the habanos days?
tmac77 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 would be interesting to get a closer pic of the one third from the left as well as the Davidoff 1
jdackerman Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 @tmac77 The third from the left is this brand http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/DH-Don_Candido.aspx @teyreborn it is in fact a cuban davidoff I kept both of those in there because they look very similar to the other petite coronas (??maybe) The three next to the Don Candido seem to have the same color wrapper but the cap looks different on the Don Candido compared to all of them. The Davidoff wrapper doesn't really look like any of the other ones, but the caps all look the same.
jdackerman Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 The Dunhill Montecristos are kind of confusing to me, I wasn't able to find more info about about those.
tmac77 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 The Dunhill Montecristos are kind of confusing to me, I wasn't able to find more info about about those. Dunhill seleccion montecristos are quite rare. They were specially made for A Dunhill and were discontinued in 1982. Very rare to find one. Arguably better than a non dunhill seleccion monte but that all depends upon who you listen to.

Like other Dunhills these were also discontinued in 1982

Like other Dunhills these were also discontinued in 1982 This is both awesome and frustrating to hear. Awesome because I will actually get to smoke a rare cigar that I otherwise would never have dreamed of encountering. Frustrating bc now I have all these cigars that I feel should be saved for a really special occasion. Admittedly it's a great problem to have, but I'm sure you get my mix of emotions. For now I'm going to let them all hang out in the humidor and get acclimated for a month or so. 1
jdackerman Posted December 4, 2014 Author Posted December 4, 2014 I'm curious to hear what you all think those two robustos on the left are.

jdackerman Posted December 5, 2014 Author Posted December 5, 2014 Some info. here: http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/DH_Cigars.aspx#Montecristo & a few bands: Scan-141205-0001.jpg Those bands are quite different than my bands. I actually sent you an email earlier asking if you wanted pics/scans of the bands I have. The bands I have look like the regular Montecristo band, but then on the side it says Dunhill. #6 and #7 counting from the right are both the Montecristo/Dunhill bands as well as the bottom of the two on top. The other ones are the normal Monte band from that time.

Not sent to me....you may have sent them to Alex, who now runs the CCW. If it was to him, he would get to you asap. Trevor.
Habana Mike Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Very nice finds. Given those discussed above I imagine many others may be quite vintage. My thought on cigars is that every day is special, some more so than others. Don't hold off on enjoying your special cigars as you may expire before they do!

PigFish Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 Cigars are for smoking. The good news is that you did not have to lose your dad to get these cigars. Smoke them with good health and might I add, that many members may enjoy your review of them, and sharing some of your experience! Cheers to you and your dad, both! -Piggy 2

LGC Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 As I always say... cigars are for smokin'... not for strokin' With Cubans (or any cigar for that matter), you never know how they will perform by staring at them. In other words, don't depend on any one of those cigars to make an occasion. You could be thrilled, or not, after lighting up. Everyday above ground is a reason enough to celebrate.
