TM-US Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 On my recent trip to Quebec, I had the opportunity to smoke some nice small ring gauge cigars. SCDLH Principe- very good, flavorful petit corona. Lots of Demerara sugar, goes great with a café au lait. Por Larrañaga Montecarlo- similarly sweet like the Principe, but more honey. Great long panatela sized cigar. Juan Lopez Panatela Sublime- this was a standout. Heavy barnyard odor, coming from an '02 box, no less. Smelled so strong that I thought I was smoking a manure stick! Excellent flavor, though. I don't remember the exact notes, as the barnyard odor was stuck in my mind. I also smoked some Bolivar Petit Coronas, Partagas Shorts, and Cohiba Siglo IIs, but those are in my normal rotation.
JY0 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I'm not familiar with the JL Panatela Sublime? I like the PL montecarlo and the PL Panatela.
Smallclub Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I'm not familiar with the JL Panatela Sublime? I like the PL montecarlo and the PL Panatela. He's confusing with the Panatela Superba, discontinued in 2006. There is no JL "Sublime". btw, El Principe, BPC, Shorts and Siglo II are all 42rg, not a "very small rg" even under HSA standard… 1
Maplepie Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Nice to write about! Very good to hear about so many pleasant cigar encounters btw, El Principe, BPC, Shorts and Siglo II are all 42rg, not a "very small rg" even under HSA standard…Just goes to show which way the wind is blowing Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry. 1
1LegLance Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 The PL's are the only small ring gauge I enjoy other than the La Gloria Cubanas. Otherwise I find that a 40 ring gauge is about as small as I like. The thinner the cigar the more you have to be careful about draw so as not to heat up the stick too much. As for vitolas like minutos....I love'em Partagas Shorts, Bolivar Corona Jr, SCdlH Principe...well not the RG Perla...a bit rough. Petite Coronas are my all around favorite vitola and I recommend giving them a whirl if you don't already enjoy them. Excellent size to value ratio. RG PC Sancho Panza Non-Plus Boli PC
Smallclub Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 ...well not the RG Perla...a bit rough. I must have been very lucky with the box of Perlas I purchased last year; they were delicious, very well rolled, complimented with a nice oily colorado wrapper. The roundness of the smoke was incredible for such a young cigar. But now, with all the negative reviews and opinions (on forums but also in l'Amateur de Cigare), I dare not order an other box…
Maplepie Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 How are the Petit Lonsdales holding up? Easy to find nowadays, too? Was hoping the Perla would replace them. But perhaps I'm simply insane Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.

But perhaps I'm simply insane I think the Petit Lonsdales are very HTF nowadays, but the Perlas remind me the Très Petit Lonsdale, which taste had little to do with the Lonsdale in my experience.
Maplepie Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Those exist!?! Edit : damn. Looks good Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.
Smallclub Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 they existED actually. Could be found in Switzerland, 7-8 years ago.
Mckucci Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 PL montecarlos are great, I have a box in my humidor!
PigFish Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Here is a small ring cigar you don't often see discussed. Since they are out, I will be lighting one up with some coffee… Cheers, Piggy 2
Maplepie Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Very good. PM if you want to split a box, Ray Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry.
PigFish Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Very good. PM if you want to split a box, Ray Sent by the Enigma on BlackBerry. You know mate, while I like these they are not really much of a value… That is unless you have found some that are inexpensive and want to email me about them. I have had these forever it seems, but based on prices, the last time I looked, I would prefer to buy say RGPC's at a ratio of 1.5 to 1 and get more cigars. I won't say better cigars, but I won't say that worse either. These are quite tasty but very grassy and a little monotonic. They do however have a very nice, creamy nutmeg aftertaste… I must say I enjoyed the one I just finished quite a lot. Mine was also very easy to smoke. Normally I puff twice on a CC. This cigar was a puff once and retrohale cigar, without any sting in the sinus. I enjoyed it very much. Let me know what you are looking at and what it costs and I will let you know if I am a player. I have not looked to see if our host has them or not, nor the cost. So I could be way out to lunch on my price evaluation… but I will go over and check it out. Cheers! -Ray
GodofFire Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I never smoked anything under a 48 ring size when I was smoking just NC. But then I started branching out and stayed buying CC and now my preference is smaller ring size. Although I do still like the larger CC ring size I just find that I really enjoy the smaller ones a bit more.
PigFish Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 To quote Cary Grant in "North by Northwest, think thin!" Thinking about it was as far as I got after the cigar, and before dinner! - 1

PigFish Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Sorry mate… when an email comes with the title Panties… it generally finds its way into the spam folder!!! Try Viagra next time maybe… -LOL
Maplepie Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Sorry mate… when an email comes with the title Panties… Oh darn... I think I'm sending Klaus a mailer saying "Large Panties" Or perhaps "Extra Panties". Romeo y Julieta Panties? I like to have fun with my cigars
