ogus Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Any difference in quality between a box of 5 fivers in cardboard vs the 25 box?
Habana Mike Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 If you get them both fresh probably not a lot of difference. If they're a few years old a box is going to beat cardboard almost every time.
Maplepie Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 If they're a few years old a box is going to beat cardboard almost every time. i concur. however, i do enjoy those little 1 cardboard cases just for shipping... also for box splits which make them MUCH easier. then no one really bickers over who keeps the box for myself, i enjoy the box because they're better at storing.
RijkdeGooier Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 As I understand it, the cardboard box needs to be watched for humidity. If it becomes too humid it might give off paper taste to the cigars. Not something you want to discover after a few years waiting for those Trini's.

Not something you want to discover after a few years waiting for those Trini's. Not really humidity issue. Long term aging and cardboard pack is just a bad idea. The cardboard itself release some aroma and the cigar will pick it up. Furthermore I have smoked few old sticks out from cardboard and the taste was also infused. Pointless to say how it was... Nothing is wrong with cardboard packs if they are fresh and you'll take them out. Place them into a desktop humidor or empty boxes will do serve you in long term. But aged stock in cardboard - not for me thanks I'd rather buy tubes where they are individually wrapped in cedar sheets. So 25's won that case However the fresh cigar quality could be the same. I haven't heard any info about placing **** into cardboard and the good ones to the boxes. 5'ers are kinda demonstrations and so it should be really good to convince you to buy boxes. Quality wise then you can find everything all over the place no matter how it is packed. Also note that you don't have box codes on 5'er cardboard pack usually (or at all?)
RijkdeGooier Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 5 packs don't carry a 'box code' but the 5 x 5 packs do - you can keep those for reference..
Smallclub Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Also note that you don't have box codes on 5'er cardboard pack usually (or at all?) The box code is stamped inside the flap of the cardboard "display" of 5x5 or 3x5.

This right here! I have had some great and very well aged cigars that came from petacas, but given the choice, I like a nice tightly packed box
garbandz Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 If you do not like box pressed, buy 5x5s. I always take the cigars out of the packs and store them in a cab,so there is no issue with cardboard.
