rmill3r Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I've loved what I've had from Upmann so far--Magnum 50, Half Corona (these are particularly great, although sadly way too short), and Coronas Major--so I got my first box of the Royal Robustos recently (not from our host). The code is UPE NOV 12 and I was happy to see that they were already nearing the two-year mark, but the first one I had from the box (and so far, it is the only HURR I've had) was too spicy, too bitter, and too hot/harsh for me. I lit the cigar well and took my time puffing it, so I don't think that's the problem, but I'm hoping it was just a dud in the box. Any thoughts on that? Are they good fresh? Do they need age? I hear everyone say that the HURRs are the quintessential Upmann--milk coffee, cream, hazelnut, etc.--but just amplified even more. That sounds awesome to me, but my first one just didn't live up to that.
Optic101 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Have a some boxes including the same code and they are great. Let them sit for a few weeks and try again. 1
CaptainQuintero Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I love Upmann but I never particularly enjoyed the RR (Boo hiss), don't like the size or the taste. The Connie #1, Sir Winnie and PC are the standout Upmann picks imo. Now if a laguito #2 was added to the reg production, that would get me tickled.

Maybe I'll do that next instead...that's a corona gorda, right?
ShortFatHokie Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I was thinking about going for the Connie 1. Maybe I'll do that next instead...that's a corona gorda, right? Hermoso No. 4 (5x48)...pretty close to a robusto. Connie 1 is a good cigar.
subport Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I was thinking about going for the Connie 1. Maybe I'll do that next instead...that's a corona gorda, right? Magnum 46 is the corona gorda in the upmann lineup (which is an outsider a bit in the marca profile, but very good cigar. Actually my all time fav. smoking good fresh but turns into a different animal with 5+) Royal Robysto is good fresh I think. I am smoking upe sep 13 box and smoking pretty damn good. However I always feel lots of potencial in it so... 2 boxes are going to take a long sleep.
cigarbreak Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Love them fresh (UPE ENE13) and should have picked up a couple more boxes to boot. Good thing is they seem pretty available so one wouldnt have to be too worried about findings more. Never tried any other HURR from a different year but having burned through 3/4 of the box they defninitely taste miles better now after resting from a deep freeze.
jdo2110 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I believe I have the same box code as you and mine are delicious. However, I would say that they have a little strength, much more so than their Upmann brothers. I agree that you should give it a few weeks and then resample. But if they are still too spicy, put em away and reward yourself in a few years when they will be absolutely phenomenal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Forget them for a month or two and try again. I had one last night and it was good until the last inch, then kept going out. I still prefer the PC or Connie#1 to the RR.
LeafLover Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 they are good fresh to my liking. however, if they are light colored wrappers, I don't like. that wrapper doesn't rate right for some reason.
