AbuAmelia Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Greetings FOH! I need some assistance on these from the cigar experts, if there are any these days. Without getting into much detail, and following forum rules, I purchased two boxes of Montecristo Gran Reservas. I am a rookie when it comes to CC's, especially boxes like this. I trust my source. What I don't know is the quality of how these cigars are supposed to be. If they look good, they look good. I don't know any other way they're supposed to look. I value this forums opinions as this is the first place that wet my beak in terms of cuban cigars. Photos were taken with my XLR camera. I have box pictures as well, but I don't think thats too important. Feel free to let me how you feel, my feelings won't get hurt. El Presidente, where are you when I need you!!!
Upmann2009 Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 If you trust the source then it's a good score. They're look good and oily, the wrappers are natural brown leathery is very nice, my has a slight green mix and doesn't look as good Enjoy bro, they are top n2 smoke. Jason 1
ccman Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 If you are asking do they look authentic, it's hard to say without having them in hand or smoking one. If as you say you trust your source, that should suffice. If you are looking for opinions, It may help if you post a pic of the outer box with labels. 1
polarbear Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I'd be happy to own them I reckon they're legit 1
OZCUBAN Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 They are really nice looking and seem totally legit enjoy 1
Habana Mike Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I'd expect more consistency with the heads though they look pretty good to me! 1
Laynard Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I'm far from an expert, but I think they look gorgeous and I'd smoke them for sure! 1
StingMeadery Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 They are one of my favourites... And part of my rotation Nice score bro! 1
ccman Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 I noticed the outer box has square corners on the stamp. I believe sometime in 2010 stamps with beveled corners replaced square corners. That said, anytime there is a change there is usually some carryover; however, I would think there would be consistency with any GR, but that's just an opinion. The few boxes I have seen, including the one I have, all had beveled corners. If you trust your source, ask him. As a minimum I would research the stamps to verify that in fact there was carryover. Good luck. 1
ATGroom Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 Can't fault anything, but it looks as though the barcode has been cut off on one box (and not the other)?Removed barcodes generally indicate a grey market vendor, something I would probably avoid when buying cigars at this price point. 1
AbuAmelia Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Where did this originate, who was the vendor? It's not allowed to name that. If Rob or a Mod allows me to, I will.
El Presidente Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 We don't name vendors for a reason. Remember the Behike thread....a good vendor called for a Fake Behike because of the new bands (whom no one had seen yet). He wasn't named here, he was named elsewhere. In the end, vendor was right and name through the mud. the question here is do the box and cigars look legitimate? if not then state why. 1
subport Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 You can still PM to the ones who are interested in vendor details It looks good enough to me 1
Smallclub Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 All these different heads and lenghts are a bit disturbing… 3
Ryan Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 The different lengths, I think, are due to not all of the cigars' feet being in line. I've seen flattened tips on Monte Gran Reservas before. There's about a 1/4 inch difference in the width of the box interior and the length of the cigar. The cigars get knocked about in those boxes much more so than standard Monte 2s where they're pressed in more tightly together. It might explain the slightly different shaped heads. 1
BRAC Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 The inconsistencies in the heads is quite alarming to me...especially considering these are GR's! Just my opinion... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
Fshaw Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 A close up pics of the Monte and GR bands would be helpful. There were a number of fakes going around last year, all from a particular region, they were most identifiable by the inconsistency in the bands and the rounded heads. AbuAmelia Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 I can solve the band issue if I knew the answer to this question. Would the band on a regular Monte 2 be the same as a MGR? According to the post above me with the comparisons. I do not have an authenticate band. That is if the bands on a Monte 2 and a MGR are the same.
