Brought to my attention that on CA we have an impersonation of Dave (Boss Hog), he has been a member here from 2007.

I know Dave, have supped and shared a cigar with Dave. A great bloke. Yet again, another member has been impersonated on CA with minimal/negligent CA Mod intervention.

Peoples, if you are contacted by a Boss Hog for a trade on any site with a ..yet again Boston MA or Montreal address, let it pass.

Same crap, different day/month.

Perhaps it is time I released the report publicly of our investigation into the Sept/Oct trading scams on FOH which led to the change in policy.

Anyway, be aware. be smart.

Cheers

Rob

Cowards are hard to kill. They live in the shadows and in this case get their jollies from the apparent thrill of ripping off people in the cigar community (new and experienced members alike). They

They feed off the anger and the mayhem they create. Take away their oxygen, put them under the microscope and they are nothing more than coward thieves.

Oh Lord, this guy again!!! Let me loose mate, let....me....loose!

I know I'm new here - what's a trading scam - and how do I avoid it?

I know I'm new here - what's a trading scam - and how do I avoid it?

What is it:

Blokes trying to negotiate/solicit a cigar trade with you in private messaging – in this case under the guise of a trusted member of the cigar community – and receiving your cigars without ever coughing up their end.

Example:

"Hey groundhog, I know you're new here. I've got some aged cigars that I'd be happy to share with you. Have you purchased anything interesting lately? We can share addresses and get a package out to each other sometime this week."

... "Trade" commences ... You send your cigars ...

Nothing ever comes. Perhaps you get ridiculed or further led on/lied to by the scammer – most likely, you will simply be ignored.

How to avoid it:

Don't arrange trades with any members whom you haven't seen around, enjoyed the posts of, exchanged some words with, and/or established some trust with. It never hurts to ask if you're unsure. As an extra precaution, I generally like to exchange phone numbers if the person is in the same region as myself. This shows good form and further establishes a personal connection. This goes for any online community/commodity.

Rob, I think you have the wrong Boss Hog being impersonated. The one that was impersonated has a first initial of G and while he is a member here, he is not all that active. The REAL Boss Hog, G, is one of the kindest, most well liked, honest, BOTL I have met. This impersonator is most likely the same scumbag, motherless piece of ****, who impersonated me.

For what it is worth, this latest scam was conducted off site and by email only. No private messages were actually exchanged on the forum where the victim advertised his goods.

Thanks for this. Good things to remember for sure.

This is the address that the scumbag used:

Anybody in the area feel like checking it out?

On CA, I've never been a member of CA, but was impersonated twice on there, in a fairly detrimental manner.

Dave "Boss Hog" out of DC is a good friend of mine.

I've known him for years, been his guest, he's been here many times my guest.

I contacted him today and he told me he's totally unaware of anything foul.

He's been out of the forums for years.

Wrong Boss Hog.

Guess the impersonator is the same A**hole that impersonated me as well .... ;-)

Gentlemen,

Unfortunately, I am the one that was recently impersonated by some thief who proceeded to steal from a fellow brother.

Based on Rob's initial post, I gather that there are two of us on these forums with similar handles/usernames.

Just to clarify and avoid any further confusion, I use the same handle and avatar on all of the cigar forums that I frequent.
