Deodato Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Just noticed this article in Broadsheet - haven't visited for a rum and cigar yet but sounds great no? http://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/food-and-drink/article/rum-diarys-new-south-american-flavour Mercader’s neat menu features meaty Spanish favourites such as chargrilled hanger steak with chimichurri and lime, chilli beef-heart tacos with pickled cabbage and tomatillo and a very impressive coal-roasted pine mushroom with spiced butter, parsley and espelette goats’ cheese. And, a range of empanadas and chorizo comes from nearby Latinesque providore, Casa Iberica. For after dinner, The Rum Diary has just introduced a range of Cuban cigars from $8 to $48 each. 1
Wil Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Looks great. Thanks for the tip. Some great rums on their menu http://www.rumdiarybar.com.au Would be interested to see their cigar menu.
polarbear Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Curious to see what kind of cuban cigar you get for $8 I'm gonna check it out when I'm down in September

Ken Gargett Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 good list - defintely keen to visit but two points. 1. not a single aussie rum good enough to make it? whether people love or hate bundy, they make a number of different styles and levels. and there are other producers. 2. more of a worry, a place that specialises in rum still thinks bacardi comes from cuba? 1

Not sure about the Bundaberg but maybe they've got some really old Bacardi? Not that those expressions were even made in the 50's..... 1
Ken Gargett Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Not sure about the Bundaberg but maybe they've got some really old Bacardi? Not that those expressions were even made in the 50's..... some of the master distillery range and special releases - 18 year old (stunning) and the 125th (i've not tried it but love to) - from bundy are at least deserving. and no chance re the bacardi. i'm on the panel to judge wine lists and we see it all the time. bad enough on usual lists but this place should really do better.
Habana Mike Posted August 22, 2014 Posted August 22, 2014 Not sure I've seen Bundaberg up our way though I'll do some checking as I'd like to give it a try on your recommendation.
polarbear Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I'm a bundy drinker from way back and have tried most of the MD range I'll mention it to them when I'm there later next month
