ag794516 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 In autumn the parents of my girlfriend are in frisco and maybe they can get me there something special. Does anybody have any experience from there? Thanks a lot.
mk05 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 They don't sell cc in the USAIncorrect.Vendetta Blue if you want to burn some money.
Vinnyc Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 So they sell Cuban cigars in San Fran airport. I know you can purchase pre revolution sticks but I can't imagine seeing these at an airport
MrGinger Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 CC's at SFO? I don't think so. I was just at the Fairmont on Nob Hill. The cigar shop/lounge there had quite a selection of pre-embargo Cubans. No idea of pedigree though.
Lotusguy Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 First: Nobody, and I mean NOBODY calls San Francisco "Frisco" Second: You can only buy overpriced NC Davidoff in the SFO airport - on account of the Cuban embargo and all that 3
Perla Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 If you are interested in the reason why please read: http://www.streifler.de/das-kuba-embargo-der-usa--96-bedeutung-fuer-eu-buerger-_3948.html and a very interesting article how JFK secured some of his beloved Cuban cigars: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2098064/John-F-Kennedy-bought-1-200-Cuban-cigars-hours-ordered-US-trade-embargo.html and if you use the search function you will probably find some more about this.
Smallclub Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 First: Nobody, and I mean NOBODY calls San Francisco "Frisco" when who choose "AG794516" as a forum name I suppose you have a different relationship to these things…
ag794516 Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 when who choose "AG794516" as a forum name I suppose you have a different relationship to these things… No I have no relationship to these things. The questions was only because of interest. I know about the embargo but was not sure if this is also for international flights in the travel value. I also know about Dubai for a good place. Last time I was there I had not enough time to check. Reason is that I am looking for some discontinued cigars. SLR Churchill, La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'or No 2, Tainos or Punch Churchills.

Hiroshiro Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Yea No Cubans period. You can still get those in Germany tho just talk to your LCDHs except for the Tainos but everything else you should be able to find
nem Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I was just at the Fairmont on Nob Hill. The cigar shop/lounge there had quite a selection of pre-embargo Cubans. No idea of pedigree though. That should be the Vendetta place that mk05 mentioned. I haven't been there in several years, but I recall a few of their boxes looking more post-embargo than pre-embargo. I'd be fairly cautious of buying anything there.
alloy Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Went to the Vendetta Blu website and it won't let me see the cigar list.
PapaDisco Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Ha! Sorry to rain on your hopes, but the only way you'll find Cubans in SFO International is if you happen to cross paths there with one of the FOH brethren with a few sticks in his bag. As to the use of the term "Frisco," it's not that big of a deal, but us locals do like to give others a hard time about it. Stick to "San Francisco" and you'll find yourself wisked to the front of the line at Top of the Mark, upgraded to a suite at the Huntington, comp'd drinks at the Big Four and maybe even get a free ride on the California cable car line. ;-) I realize this post was about your (almost) in-laws passing through, but if you should ever find yourself in the City by the Bay let us know. Always happy to stand a Brother a drink and a CC on top of Nob Hill.
