A dear friend, who had the pleasure of attending grad school in your lovely country, informed me with much confidence that many, many beautiful women resided in Australia. However, this link of yours makes virtually no mention of this. Rather, it features men, some of them in speedos, engaging in various physical activities. This is disconcerting!

I never quite believed him, but this must explain why my friend was so popular in Australia.

Okay, Australia is officially on my mental list of graduate school and postdoc destinations.

#3 - the coffee, funny thing, had a client at work tell when he was in Oz he just didn't get the coffee, said it all taste the same & horrible. Either way, congrats on supporting the local shops & helping them thrive.

The native translation for Speedos... is "Budgie Smugglers" and these are naturally matched with "Thongs" as a complete package :)

2 of your 23 things are the Hemsworth brothers...

i should point out that this is an american list.

no aussie would include them. in fact, not sure many aussies would have a clue who they are. one was thor? one was thor's brother?

Genetically I'm programmed to yell "MURICA", but I'll leave it at this: NFL football. The best 5 months of the year anywhere in the world.

and television, internet being what it is, we can both watch the same game, same time. and i'll still be in australia when it finishes.

love the nfl - go skins - but don't forget, we also have cricket!

test cricket - no better game.

TV is not the same thing as being there. C'mon.

fair point but i'm not going to get to the cricket over there.

but how often do you actually get to a game?

when i lived in DC, i managed one game from a scalper (and that was a disaster, though i was so pleased to get there - part of a great season this day, minus 5, and they lost to the cowgirls, who came pretty much last across the entire comp). back then at RFK, they were sold out about ten years in advance.

also, here i get to go to every game the glorious reds play (rugby).

When I lived outside Philly I went to all the home games. Nowadays in Arizona I get to probably 4 a year, then fly back sometime during the season to see the Eagles for a game. This year the Eagles play in Arizona so that'll be a real treat.

Don't get me wrong I know that worldwide cricket is much more popular, it's just way outside the box for me. My dad has had Eagles tickets since it was 250 bucks per seat per season (50 years).

No real serious comparison needs to be made. Both countries have their positives and negatives.

I can usually get into any Chiefs or Cowboys game anytime I want. Of course, as long as it isn't a rivalry game. Tickets to Chiefs vs. Raiders at Arrowhead are more difficult to come by.

College games are pretty good around here as well. I have been to many Big 12 championship games. Bedlam games between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State can be a blast too.

My only complaint about Australia is that it is so far away. When I hit the lottery I'd love to spend some time there.

In all my years of travelling I have learned three absolute truths.

The third is that almost everybody thinks their own little corner of the world is the best. peace.gif +

Must have been a woman writing that article as the beautiful Aussie woman were not mentioned instead the Hemswoth brothers were.

I heard from a few friends that have visited that the Australian women are into guys from the USA. So Ken maybe right about them not being paid attention too.

Question. If I moved to Brisbane and worked their could I still get cigars at Czar at US prices lol
