PLPC Flavour Profile

I'm halfway through a damn ugly PLPC... but what flavour, sitting here with a grin on my face and thinking I don't want the damn thing to end.

My question is this, how do you typically describe the PLPC flavours? Some time ago I said I like that warm hay / barnyardy flavour. That I how if would describe this.. But I'm thinking what I describe as warm hay / barnyardy is described by others as something else on this forum... So just wanting to re calibrate my words to describe flavours.

Pleasantly surprised to see me on the top of the link list. Lol

In regards to my post, my 2011s still aren't there. I'll enjoy one every month or so to see how they evolve, but they still have a lot of "mongrel" to them. A little rough around the edges, but still some good flavor coming through. Earthy, roasted tobacco (that is correct with a r) with a touch of sweetness that comes and goes. The last 1/3 gets especially dark for me and I tend to lay them down early in this period. Overall, I really like this cigar. Enough going on young to keep me interested and you know the again potential will be great. The aged examples I've had have been just that.

I love the PLPC despite them being quite ugly sticks

The main flavours I get from the are caramel and honey and also grass and hay as well

I do find that the flavour get quite bitter early on though and don't normally smoke too far into the final third

I'd love a cigar with caramel and honey.

I've only had one PLPC so far, it must have been too young because all I got was overwhelming pepper and spice, and not in a good way. Too much mongrel for me!

Need to give this and Bolivar PC a second chance. Am looking to buy a box of petit coronas, but haven't had one that's blown me away yet outside Juan Lopez and HdM, of which I have boxes in larger sizes.

when they are well aged, but they are not good, to me anyway, with less than 5 years of age.

caramel flavor in the PLPC = urban legend. At best, the PLPC delivers strong notes of dark honey. But no caramel, at least in the european sense…

I find caramel in a good, reasonably aged RyJ Exhibicion No.4.

If someone writes a book describing a cigar with caramel flavors, then every starts using that term... just like bean flavors, congeners, etc. I've never smoked a PLPC and thought, "Holy crap, it tastes like I just dipped the tip of this cigar in caramel sauce before I took a puff." Then again, tastes are highly subjective. Not all of us are supertasters.

Bought a 50 cab from Rob.

Hate them young. Just seems to be too harsh for me.

After about a year and a half now, some of the sweetness I've heard about is coming through.

Need a bit of time to come into their own. Hopefully they improve even more from here.

Most candy that says caramel is corn syrup which when warm, would taste similar to warm or burnt honey. I think most people would be surprised if they tasted real caramel. I know I always am when I eat it.

I wrote about this a couple years back and maybe it's time to update for future search function. The last PLPC with incredible flavors such as true floral honey notes, cream, and body were the '02 cabs back in '10. Those were definitely the last of the Mohicans. When I saw people starting to hoard PLPCs around '08 on, I figured they were buying to chase those dream-like flavors of the magnificent '02s.

However, I believe the '04s showed some signs of this recently from a couple I smoked, and '06 are coming along, although not exhibiting signs of that "clean" honey nor deep, oily, creamy richness. The '06s portray more so a generic sweetness and tobacco taste at the moment. However, given that the rest of SLBs of '06 are hitting the mark for me currently, I have hopes for these to come around. But I'm not holding my breath.

Now this is an educated post. This answers a question that I have asked unsuccessfully on several non european cigar boards!

Maybe you have a point there. I make caramel often using only sugar, butter, and heavy cream. I don't buy the stuff in bags to eat.
