TheBaron Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 So I'm having Thai for dinner tonight. In the mood for some real heat. My question is what's good to smoke after a really spicy meal, like a Thai Green curry, for example? What would you smoke to finish off the night? Do I go an SD4 or 898 to keep in line with the capsicum/pepper theme, or is something lighter a better move? Your thoughts/opinions are appreciated.
subport Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 If I were you I would drink a huge fresh grinded lemon and water first. Just to clean the palate a bit. (Or any kinda citrus related soft drinks) Then for the cigar. Hm if it was me definitely would go with a full bodied stick rather than anything mild. But truly just pick up whatever you like to smoke normally

But truly just pick up whatever you like to smoke normally I agree, I don't normally choose a cigar based on what type of food I'm eating but more rather how heavy the meal is.. If it's after breakfast in between lunch, it's a mike smoke usually.. If it's after a 4 course dinner with the lady, it's always something full bodied..at this point it's just smoke what you enjoy. x2 on cleaning the palate suggestion after the spicy food..
Fosgate Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Now I'm hungry for Thai food dang it! Local place here carries pickled ginger like the sushi bars to cleanse the pallet. You could also leave a small handful of untouched (unsauced) rice to eat at the end of your meal to kill the burn along with a glass of water with lemon juice.
Professor Twain Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I like to drink milk after spicy food to tone things down in the mouth. I'd even rinse with mouthwash or brush my teeth. I don't want any food to influence my cigar tasting. If you don't get that palate cleansed you'll miss anything with subtlety. So I'd go bold. Partagas Short, Boli PC, RJ Cazadores would be my choices

DoubleDD Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I usually cleanse the palate with a limoncello and go for a Boli after a spicy or bold meal.
LeafLover Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 My latest kick is the Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Gourmet. IMO it is a dessert cigar. Creamy, sweet, woody.
liger930 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I often cut down the spiciness with a Thai tea or thai ice coffee as the half&half creamer helps to reduce palette burn. Also leaves a lightly sweet creamy coat on palette. Cigar choice is up to you. I once paired a partagas p2 with thai beer singha after dinner. .opened up full host of flavors.
shlomo Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Spicy food will ruin your palate for the night and no amount of refreshing will help imo. Your best bet would be to smoke an NC. Something with plenty of smoke volume like a Pardon anny. My 2 cents.
jrb5783 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I'd say a bolivar also. But I do like an hdm as they are a great creamy smoke to go with a coffee after dinner Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
