so at the very moment our nation acknowledges the unpayable debt it owes to so many, you'll be feet up with a cigar?

protest recorded, see you there.

You could always head to the dawn service before dropping in at the Deck?

the problem with the dawn service is that i've never been to one where half the people didn't either arrive pissed, or leave pissed. and sadly, sometimes i was in both halves.

had some rellies visit gallipolli. didn't speak so highly of it. these days, i try and take some time by myself to think about the anzacs, their sacrifice and all things associated. sit with a cigar and a drink (and might pull out my grandfather's war diary).

as a kid, i remember going into the city for the anzac day march. i was very young when my mum's dad passed away but i can remember him marching.

then, for many years, i went to the service at my old school. it was a very large and extremely well done event. often thousands in attendance. the days of compulsory cadets. now that it is not compulsory (and i am certainly not suggesting it should be), i believe that the service has suffered greatly and is almost embarrassing. i'd rather do it my way now.

I hear what you're saying

I guess the people who attend the Dawn Services up here are a little more respectful, and the people that arent tend to get sorted out by the crowd before the service kicks off.

I've attend every dawn service I've been able to. I even went to an Anzac Day Dawn service when I was in New York City last year. Thats a great story for another time.

Most years I go to the dawn service in the CBD followed by a shotgun breakfast at the Darwin RSL

The day usually end with me and a bunch of my defence mates hitting The North Darwin RSL for beer and Two Up.

Great way to spend a day.
