Popular Post TiminBC Posted March 4, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 4, 2014 Addiction? I never smoked cigarettes and while I enjoy a good cigar daily I often do not have any addictive longings. Hobby? I would not consider smoking cigars a hobby and I am more of a smoker than a collector. Obsession? As for obsession I think that would mean I ignore other things that I enjoy. I have always enjoyed traveling although a major factor now is can I get good cigars and is there a good place to smoke them. I spent 10 years collecting photography gear and knowledge. I sold off some gear last year when I realized how much I had but I bought some cigars with most of the money. I have neglected photography lately but have thought about spending more time with photography but to be honest it would involve taking pictures of cigars. I went 10 years without wearing a watch and started getting interested in them a year ago and bought a Swiss watch but only so I could better keep track of how long a cigar smoked. I am back studying Spanish which takes allot of my time but only because I plan to spend allot of time in cigar countries when I retire and the language will come in handy. I also watch the weather excessively but as you can guess it's just to see if and when I can smoke a cigar outside. I am also paying allot more attention to having enough money for retirement since as well know cigars are expensive! I loved to read when I was young and the interest has come back strong since I found this forum! I guess for me it is an obsession but I have always believed if it is worth doing it is worth obsessing about. How about you? 5
Diamondog Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 All 3 for me. I smoke 3 cigars minimum a day regardless of weather. Spend a lot of days consumed in one way or another with cigars (outside of actually smoking them). There is no doubt smoking 3 a day I feel it (physically) on the rare day that I don't get 1 in. I enjoy almost every minute of it!

You live in a gorgeous part of the world, and the backdrops would be amazing. I haven't been back that way to visit the family in almost 4 years, and can't wait to get back and take a few shots at some of the cool spots I remember. As far as the hobby goes, I am obsessed
poisonowns Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Unfortunately, i've never really had any cheap hobbies. There comes a point where hobbies become part of who I am as a person though, a part of my identity. I don't know if that falls into one of the above categories, but I see myself as a guy who loves his family, work, playing golf, and smoking cigars. 1
TiminBC Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Well I have seen your cigar pics and you have quite the eye. It was partly your shots on CCF that have me thinking about taking some myself. pbibby Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Hobby for me, but a hobby that boarders on obsession! 1
Marker Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I enjoy smoking cigars, but I don't collect them. There is no addiction.
PuffDaddie Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Smoking cigars for me is not an addiction, I just enjoy them. 2
Bclass1 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 This is a hobby for me.. It's become somewhat of an obsessive hobby only because I feel like I'm always searching for that perfect smoke, which makes it worth while. I have other hobbies which allocate a certain amount of time to as well. I don't smoke once a day, I'm more of a 3-4 per week type of guy that slows down a bit in the winter. Cigars to me, are to be enjoyed in any way possible.. Even if yore smoking 5 a day, if you enjoy it, then God bless.. 1
stogieluver Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Obsession here. Not addicted. Smoked cigarettes for 20+ years. That was an addition. Quit 20+ years ago. Obsessed with all things Cuban cigars. Smoking, buying, aging, storing, accessories, etc etc etc. Case in point...I'm on this website every day for at least the larger parts of 3-4 hours.
Carpenter69 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Anything worth doing is worth doing in excess. 1
maxcjs0101 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Reading halfway OP's post i has to scroll up to see who that was cause i might have written that in my sleep.
kwsaw63 Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Cigars are a hobby for me but my wife would say I'm obsessed! 1
OkieJoe Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Hobby, but its easy to get caught up in any of the facets of the cigar world
Laxman Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 Hobby for me. But one I am obsessed with and addicted too.
Fuzz Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I think Guy said it best, it's not a hobby, it's a lifestyle. 3
ajgw Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I'm new to this hobbsession (See what I did there). Im interested in how it pans out over time. At the moment I could easily spend every spare buck I have on an untasted cigar brand, vitola, wrapper, etc Definitely obsessed in this moment.
LLC Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 I think Guy said it best, it's not a hobby, it's a lifestyle. x2 and one I am passionate about.
polarbear Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 For me it started as a hobby (half filled 75 count desk top) but over the last 5 years it has mutated into an obsession (3 full to bursting 72 bottle wine fridges) I keep FoH and another Aus based Cigar Forum open at work and check for updates every hour or so I check halfwheel and Dusky Beauties every day for the latest news and reviews and browse on-line retailers once or twice a week looking for good deals or sticks that i'm yet to try. I'm passionate about the cigar lifestyle and most of my friends will tell you that the only time you see me in a social setting without a cigar in my hand is usually right after I've finished one I love how you can tie a specific cigar to a moment in your life, and then, years later, how when you smoke that specific cigar again it can take you back to that moment. There a a number of cigars that I have tied to special moments in my life. Most of these are cheap or RP sticks that I just reached for because it was a good time for a cigar, but while smoking it, the cigar took on a whole new meaning to me. Now, whenever I reach for a Monte 2, it takes me back to a time in my life when i was at my happiest. Tell me, what other "hobby" can do that? 3
Maplepie Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Methinks: Part of this hobby is the obsession. What say you, FoHers? Sent from my BlackBerry Q10 using Tapatalk for Android.
cigarbreak Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Its starting to become an obsession/addiction but tell I people that won't understand that it is a hobby lol
