KB24 Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Anyone want to give me their opinions of the value, US dollars, of an aged box of 2009 RG CE's that have been kept at 65/65 since receiving them??? -Patrick 1
Vortigan Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Seen similarly aged ones going at around the $220 mark.
Blakes Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 I actually had one of these today, lovely cigar. I'd say $220 sounds about right.
LouisMazzini Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 That's what I'd pay max pretty much. Very nice cigars IMHO. Great box! 1
shlomo Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Anybody charging a big premium for these is a thief. 2009 is not "aged". Only reason it may have a slight (10% or less) increase in value would be because they are gone. Great cigar and I would pay 220 for these too, but thats close to the max for me as well. 2
rckymtn22 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 They are a discontinued cigar so that will cause them to increase some.

bigharpoon Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 You can still find 2009 RGCE's in stock! Yes! I ordered a box last year and when it arrived it was from 09. Smoking great by the way.
Skyfall Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Yes! I ordered a box last year and when it arrived it was from 09. Smoking great by the way. Yep! The 08's and 09's, I think are stellar!
aes8 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 2009 is not "aged". This. Sometimes there is a reason why cigars are discontinued and still in stock. 2
Vortigan Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 This. Sometimes there is a reason why cigars are discontinued and still in stock. That's a lesson I for one have learned the hard way!
shlomo Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 This. Sometimes there is a reason why cigars are discontinued and still in stock. I dont think the reason is because they are no good. Some of the best cigars I have ever enjoyed have been 2008-09 RG CEs.... I thinkthe reason that they are still in stock is the same reason they were discontinued. Because not many people know about them and not many people want to take a chance with them. They are generally unheralded and don't sell, but they are are GREAT marca. The new Perlas is OK, the lonsdale was never my favorite, but the CE and the PC are exceptionally full flavoured and lovely cigars.I see many similarities between RG and SLR in that they generally produce wonderful cigars that are very underappreciated.
Troels Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Oh well SLR doesnt produce much anymore ad I understood - only regios hasnt been axed, right?
aes8 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 They are generally unheralded and don't sell, but they are are GREAT marca. GREAT!? I'll take you word for it but then again to each their own. The price point kills this box. For the same money you can buy (and sell) a box of Monty 2, P898, 50cab of shorts, ect etc.
Skyfall Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 GREAT!? I'll take you word for it but then again to each their own. The price point kills this box. For the same money you can buy (and sell) a box of Monty 2, P898, 50cab of shorts, ect etc. I've never paid near that much for RGCE's. I like the cigar, in fact, an '09 RGCE made it into my "best of" top 10 list for cigars I smoked in 2013. (and I smoked a lot of great sticks)
aes8 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 So I've never paid near that much for RGCE's. I like the cigar, in fact, an '09 RGCE made it into my "best of" top 10 list for cigars I smoked in 2013. (and I smoked a lot of great sticks) So is the $220 figure listed in the first few posts in this tread incorrect?
Skyfall Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 So So is the $220 figure listed in the first few posts in this tread incorrect? Well, they may be found for that price, so that may very well be accurate, but they can also be found for much cheaper as well. ($40 cheaper to be exact.)
aes8 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Well, they may be found for that price, so that may very well be accurate, but they can also be found for much cheaper as well. ($40 cheaper to be exact.) You mean the 09 s can be found for cheaper?
Skyfall Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 You mean the 09 s can be found for cheaper? Yes. Like the sentiment that has already been expressed, '09 is hardly considered aged, much less aged enough for a higher premium. In my opinion....
aes8 Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Yes. Like the sentiment that has already been expressed, '09 is hardly considered aged, much less aged enough for a higher premium. In my opinion.... I think we are finally one the same page.
shlomo Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Skyfall has answered exactly how I would have...220 is the absolute max to pay for these. And yes to each their own, I prefer these generally over the 898s, Monte 2 or shorts.
1LegLance Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I offered $200 and might consider $220 because I am a RG fan and sorely miss quite a few discontinued cigars. My last box was bought from a vendor in October for $190 and was 2009 I think. Looking forward to the results of this thread and the post in the trading room....this is what make cigars so much fun is how a great cigar to one person is "meh" to another....which directly translates into value. Now if I could just go back in time and buy some many more boxes in the mid 90's when I was a cheapo and thought those prices were high
