The above story is what I call Cuban Government "Groundhog Day"

Every time that the conversation turns to "Dropping the US Cuban embargo" The Cuban Government go and make sure they do something that ensures it will stay.

Embargo keeps the Castros in power and the people oppressed. I truly believe it will never end in my lifetime and I'm 47. JMO

That's because they blame the embargo for All the problems in Cuba, and as long as in effect they can blame the USA instead of themselves

For all we know this is just American propaganda and never actually took place. An embargo is crippling to whoever the target is, but its tough to quantify how bad it is when a ridiculous ruler runs the government at the same time.

A MiG-21? The western world got their panties in a knot over a MiG-21 being sent from Cuba to North Korea? Wow... they might as well have sent a crate full of muskets. Pretty much the same level of tech by today's standards. Much ado about nothing if you ask me. Hell, maybe it was for a museum or something. Who still flies MiG-21s anyhow?

Oh, it is still in service in many countries across the globe, mainly those who cannot afford to modernise their air force. India is probably the largest country to still have it in service.

China continues to manufacture the MIG-21 under license (currently up to the J11 variant) and Russia is still offering upgrade packages

Well, yeah... but the J11 is the most recent Chinese variant. I'm going out on a limb here, but I bet the one in that cargo container wasn't a J11. The most recent MiG-21 delivered to Cuba was the bis model... from 1980-81. So my point was that whatever version it was, it was almost certainly not something anyone in the west should be the least bit concerned about. Kim Jong Un probably just wanted a toy for the bathtub.

hard to believe that the north koreans could not have got something more up to date from either china or russia or some other local nation and not have to get it from cuba.

not too sure why they'd do that though... it'd weaken DPRK too much. they essentially just lost one of their largest vessels and now have more stuff to answer to. both will get a spanking from the UN and their border nations...

Breaking News: UN to write a moderately toned letter to both Cuba and North Korea suggesting that if they want to buy weapons they should do it by UN approved gun runners (UK and USA) competition is not appreciated.
