Fosgate Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 So I'm non traditional college student at age 40 and a professor just came back from San Francisco where she picked up some candy via China Town. I wasn't afraid to try it as I have tried many different foods in my travels around the globe. So this thing is wrapped like nothing I had seed before when it comes to candy. Looks like Hashish and smells pretty bad at this point. But lord hates a coward. I bit into it and and hit the seed but was instantly overwhelmed with the taste of Copenhagen long cut laced with diet Pepsi and a hint of cigar. It instantly reminded me of swallowing Copenhagen when I used to dip and started to gag. Had to run out of the room to a nearby vender and grab a juice to flush my mouth out. Despite this the flavor just hung on my palate for a good 20 minutes before letting me go. So next class I sit by my young friend who is also an aspiring aficionado and another young man that sat next to me during the last class laughing at me. Same professor as the prior class hands out the goodies again and we insist he try it. He didn't spit it out but had a hard time swallowing it. I guess it doesn't phase a young starving college athlete as much but he agreed on the flavor profile. Note to self. Don't eat anymore Chinese "Candy" Should be a biohazard sign on stuff like this.
CaptainQuintero Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Mmmmmm delicious!! I love the wrapper though, maybe that's where the budget went
mrbritish1976 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Was it tamarind ? Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk
Fosgate Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 No Idea. I suspect it was a peeled and fermented plum.
kwsaw63 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 It's a preserved Plum and personally I love them!
Edwhatever Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Well Done! Now go drink Chinese Herbal medicine, a whole bowl with 1 glup. Then put this in your mouth right away. It's good for your Chi, your Yin-Yang. You might even be able to fight off a tiger too, as they say.
MIKA27 Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 HAHA!! Funny stuff - My thoughts are all of the above!!
socapots Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Was it tamarind ? Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk That's the first thing I thought. Fermented plumb sounds not so yummy.
socapots Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I googled and this came up first.... http://www.cdph.ca.gov/Pages/NR12-054.aspx I'm sure what you had was fine. But damn that sounds like alot of lead.
Fosgate Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 Thing is about lead....researchers really have no idea how much is toxic in humans. Seems to be different for everyone. I knew there was a good reason I spit that thing out.
Fuzz AI Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Ahh, remember these from my childhood. Salty, sweet goodness! Gonna have to get a pack this weekend and relive some childhood memories. 1
Fosgate Posted February 7, 2014 Author Posted February 7, 2014 I just looked at that lead research article. Research from "California". Yeah, they outlawed smoking based on their sound research as well.
Mr.T Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Mmm...Will have to pick some up on my trip to China in a couple weeks....
