Ken Gargett Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 i remember the superbowl ads as being a highlight. entertaining, amusing, different, fun. seems that these days, it is spend as much money on famous actors and special effects and that is it. these are some of this year's. the vw angel one is not bad but the rest i found absolutely blah. http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2014-01-30/this-years-super-bowl-car-ads-the-good-the-bad-and-the-downright-strange?campaign_id=DN013014
oliverdst Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 VW is the best. The dobbermann is funny in its on way LOL The rest nothing special but entertaining.
shlomo Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I always enjoy the movie previews most of all.
Carts Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 VW is the best. The dobbermann is funny in its on way LOL The rest nothing special but entertaining. +1 on the VW, pretty funny
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 so three votes for the vw. but in the past, you'd have a heap of terrific ads, not scraping for one.
Jeremy Festa Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I am still hoping the Aussie Doritos advert makes the cut!
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 I am still hoping the Aussie Doritos advert makes the cut! better than most i've seen but i suspect it dipped out.
Carts Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 so three votes for the vw. but in the past, you'd have a heap of terrific ads, not scraping for one. the superbowl needs some of the banned european commercials to really liven up commercial breaks
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 just came across this in an article. mind you, the guy that wrote it was also talking about the old 'wall street goes up if the NFC wins, down if the AFC wins' and spoke about how keen wall street was for the broncos to win, as they are NFC. so not sure how accurate he is. While about one in 10 Australians will watch the AFL grand final for instance, Sunday’s Super Bowl game between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks is expected to be seen by 100 million Americans –about one in every three. Of those watching, 51 per cent say they tune in only for the ads. What that means is that a company like Jaguar will spend $US8 million for a minute of airtime during the game just to reach those eyeballs. If you think that is crazy, Jaguar has already spent $US5 million advertising its upcoming advertisement on trains, billboards and TV leading up to game-day.
shlomo Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Are you guys talking about the VW with the Engineers getting their wings? Funny? Really?
Ken Gargett Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Are you guys talking about the VW with the Engineers getting their wings? Funny? Really? shlomo, i think it gets the nod because it is funnier than the rest, not because it is actually that funny.
shlomo Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 shlomo, i think it gets the nod because it is funnier than the rest, not because it is actually that funny. I see...I thought I was missing out on some incredible joke that I just didn't get...
oliverdst Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I don't think it's funny. Creative is the word.
khomeinist Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Super Bowl would be just that if each half was commercial-free. The game has become a parody of itself since the 90s. Yankee Doodle dbaggery at it's finest! 1
khomeinist Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 Obviously joking btw. Love the game. The excessive commercialization is painful though. I'm sure many of us have been dragged to parties where people only STFU for the stupid Dorito ads. Who is the qb again? Awwwmygod this 17 layer dip is amaaaazing. Hey bro. Can I get you a Bud Lite Lime? Etc. Etc. 2
Skyfall Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I'm not sure when this started, but I really don't like that they now release the commercials before the game. Part of the fun was actually watching them live and seeing everyone's reactions. 1
khomeinist Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 This thread is case in point. Social media makes these ad spots much more valuable. So much so that they forget to hire decent writers anymore!
Bill Hayes Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 This thread is case in point. Social media makes these ad spots much more valuable. So much so that they forget to hire decent writers anymore! Couldn't agree more - albeit I'm coming from the position of a 40 plus yo jaded bitter retrenched adman who was replaced by y-gen hipsters with no idea how to write decent TV scripts But, hopefully, not all is lost, the quality TV ads will return. Hopefully I'm still considered relevant enough to be a part of it. Which brings me to the Budweiser commercial seeing as I'm on a rant. Seems this piece of over-emotive saccharin crap is trending on 'Mumbook'. Have Budweiser changed their target audience or are they now selling toilet tissue? IT'S A BLOODY BEER COMMERCIAL USING AN ICON BRAND DURING THE SUPERBOWL. BEER AIN'T CUTE! WHAT'S WRONG WITH FUNNY?
CigarB Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The Bud Bowl was classic, it saved a number of terrible Superbowls. 1
Bartolomeo Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 The new Tim Tebow is a good one but then again I am a TT homer Bart
