Profmd Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I love when PC's have to advertise as "extreme". More than that I really like to see the 10x price tags added to get them there!! Not gonna spend $2700 for one that's for sure!!

shlomo Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Wife has a Toughbook. She has dropped it 300 times, drove over it in her bag 3 times and threw it against a wall once. Still works great.
Profmd Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 If I were you I would buy a mac. All I've ever owned and never had a problem....and very much cheaper.
oliverdst Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 All I've ever owned and never had a problem....and very much cheaper. Bingo.
Profmd Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Bingo. Ha ha. Cheap meaning less expensive not less quality. Can't even compare the two.
b4z00k4 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Macs are hilariously overpriced. I've built nearly every computer I've used for the past 7 years and let me tell you, you're paying a huge premium simply because it's an Apple product. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 1

CaptainQuintero Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Not to make this another Apple v PC war but after currently being stuck with an iPhone I can't tell you how frustrating it is being locked into their constricting software. Having to sync (or at least try as it's broken with updates half the time) with iTunes just to put files in your phone instead of having simple drag and drop is insane. Tech should free you and make things easier not lock you down and pummel you into submission. So I'd say don't go with Apple

Not gonna spend $2700 for one that's for sure!! There is a need for them such as Military, Utilities, etc... Expensive...yes Worth it....yes But not needed for the every day Joe user thats for sure

Expensive...yes Worth it....yes But not needed for the every day Joe user thats for sure One of my cousins in the military actually shot a bullet through one like they do in some of their ads....worked fine afterwards. This was 7 years ago or so....very cool and he even still has the laptop. Apparently it still works, although he doesn't use it anymore.

Building your own laptop is like building a kit car of the Ferrari. I've built a lot of computers myself and have worked in IT for 10+ years, nothing comes close to the quality and dependability of an Apple computer. There's a reason why they carry the price tag they do. Apple computers are not geared or targeted towards the average joe computer user. Sorry to hear about the computer issues Rob. It does suck and hope your back up to full speed again soon. 2
PapaDisco Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 If you have to get a new one, definitely consider the solid state hard drives. Quite a big step up in reliability imho!

I think the majority of Apple's clientele are exactly what you say they are not: average joe users. To address your flawed analogy: A Ferrari is a very specialized machine built of high quality parts by skilled laborers. A kit car would be a machine cobbled together to have the appearance of a car without coming close to the level of performance. A Mac is a personal computer built of quality parts by cheap Chinese labor(until late last year) with a bit of brushed aluminum and an Apple logo, thus increasing MSRP 300%. My custom built PC achieves the same performance, the same reliability, and uses parts of the same quality or better. The only thing missing is the brushed aluminum nonsense and an Apple logo. Let me present you with a better analogy. The Mac is a Bentley. Ridiculously expensive with frills nobody really needs and a price tag nobody can truly justify. Edit: I'm not going any further with this. Sorry, everybody. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 1
OZCUBAN Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 This is as usuall turning into Mac v PC debate All I can say is go apple all I have ever had in the last 15 to 20 years reliable well built and virtually idiot proof plus a well proven operating system Cheers

All my life I had PC's both built and bought and every single one of them eventually ended up having a problem whether it was software or hardware related. I bought my 27" iMac after getting sick of PC's breaking down on me and I'm on my 3rd year now and it works like the day I bought it. Recently picked up a 13" Macbook Air and this thing is amazing. The battery life, the weight and build, this thing is solid. Watch this clip: I was looking at PC's too when I was shopping but nothing came close. People say Macs are over priced but this is no longer true. Similar spec'ed PC's were going for just as much as Macs and often times higher. Only PC that grabbed my eye was the IBM Yoga Pro 2 but honestly didn't want Win 8. The folding capacity to turn it into a stand or tablet was pretty cool though. Rob, give the Mac a try! 1
poisonowns Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I bought a Macbook pro 3 years ago, use it daily for work (word processing and spreadsheets etc) and it still runs great. I'd never buy another PC again. Waste of money and endless frustration.
Wil Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I have a MacBook Air. I am a very basic computer user. Word processing, email, internet.... That's about it lol. Love it. Can't imagine it's very durable though.
oliverdst Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 If you would buy a laptop TODAY? Which would be (model)? EDIT: suggestions, just suggestions. maybe it can help Rob.

harley33 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I've been in IT for 20+ years and always used a PC. Never an issue.... But I am sure this isn't what Rob intended this thread to turn into.
oliverdst Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I am happy with my Asus so I would recommend any in their top line. http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/
