kiwicrusaders Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Afternoon all, apologies for starting another thread around the AF line, but the last thread was more general about the line. For those that have smoked the Don Carlos line, I was wondering how they compared to the Hemingway and Anejo lines. I really like the ring gauge of the no 3 and 4 and am wanting to try.
Rye Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 On a "friends of HABANOS" forum... I'm not trying to be a Richard, but why the NC queries on a Cuban forum?
gllerner Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 the anniversary and the 2013 reservas are the bomb. spice and nice flavors throughout the smaller the stick seems to be the more flavorful ones. gene Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
kiwicrusaders Posted December 30, 2013 Author Posted December 30, 2013 Thanks for the replies... As to why post a NC on a Habanos forum, cause this is the best cigar forum around where the ratio of 'Richards' is very low. On an aside, I smoke mostly Cubans, but have discovered that there are some pretty damn good NCs as well, different 'yes' but a ver good alternative. I've found that I a sticking to the Arturo Fuente line in the NC marcae as there a re just way way too many other marcaes and I've found the AF line to be very consistent and some very good flavours going on (bearing in mind I've only had the Hemingway with some Anejos on the way)...the look ver good next to my Partagas 898s, Montes and SLRs.
CaptainQuintero Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Tried the DC#4 after hearing it was rich and creamy with less spice than the rest of AF. Tasted like cardboard Have you tried the Winston Churchill brand? Made by Davidoff and very cubanesque. It's 100% Cuban seed and you actually can tell, even has the twang. The Lancaster (petit Belicosos) us the best imo
Cmontoya79 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 No4 and robusto are my preferred vitolas in the Don Carlos line from fuente.
laficion Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Try and smoke the" TATUAJE " line and you will soon give up on the whole line of A.Fs. That's all on the N.C. front.
MC4 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Hemingway is more creamier than Don Carlos, based on my experience.
Trent0341 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Try and smoke the" TATUAJE " line and you will soon give up on the whole line of A.Fs. That's all on the N.C. front. I would agree with this. Thats pretty much how my progression of NCs went.
KoreanCowboy Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I've yet to smoke a Don Carlos that is creamy. They won't and shouldn't be compared to a Cuban. They're aren't any cigars in the world that taste like Cubans and honestly, I'm still trying to figure out the appeal myself. I've only purchased 4 boxes and smoked around 12 different ones so I'm a total newbie but I haven't had a Cuban yet that I like better than any of my favorite NC.
stogieluver Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Not trying to sound like I'm disparaging your taste in cigars, but after smoking NC's exclusively for at least 10 years and never ever finding one I loved, I now know why. Up until about 18 months ago, I never smoked a CC. I've been smoking CC's exclusively now for the last year, and I was just thinking the other day about smoking some of the NC's I have remaining in one of my humidors. I can't bring myself to do it. There's just no comparison between the average CC and the best NC, in my humble opinion.

Can't agree with the comment about the best NC and average CC. I have had many Cuban cigars that to me are terrible. I have also had many NC the same. With respect to fresh out of the box, I feel more NC cigars are much better. Don't feel they age even remotely as well though.

Its hard to say, there all different. Send me a pm if you want, I know a retailer that sends internationally and singles that are very reasonably priced.
Rye Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Very welcoming reply. Classy! Ha! I guess I came across that way. The OP kindly enough answered my question gratiously. I could not think of a cushioned way to ask, so I put it out there. Perhaps a sub-forum for non-Cuban related banter is due, as it seems that many folks here really enjoy them. Stay "classy"!
backslide Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 On a "friends of HABANOS" forum... I'm not trying to be a Richard, but why the NC queries on a Cuban forum? Correct me if I'm wrong. Thought this was (friends of habanos) not (nothing but habanos). Sent from my Nexus 4

backslide Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I really don't understand the hate for NC, IMHO it's sorta petty. We're all (cigar) smokers no matter what our preferred origin is. With all the silly non smoking laws around the world I figured we should from a solid front against that and get rid of the silly in fighting. Sent from my Nexus 4
westg Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I saw Rob and Ken do a video review on something from Drew Estate(on this site), I think it may of been from the Under crown line. Which are very non Cuban, when the topic is cigar related most of us don't mind ( even if they come from outer space) and I for one like most Fuente cigars. Kiwicrusadrs did I send you A PM some time back where you can buy Fuente cigars if not let me know. The Hemingway Classic natural not maduro is terrific and if you want to go for a AF Reserva no 55 Anejo this is an awesome smoke as well. That said im taking a couple out crabbing this morning for me and my farther. Glad I read this helped me decide what to take . Happy New Year Amigos
kiwicrusaders Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Westg... Pretty sure you did send me a link, I got quite a few replies, which is why I love this forum. FYI, I actually did buy some Anejos that are arriving next week. Seeing those pictures you attached doesn't help much with the waiting ! Backslide... That sounds suitably rebellious to me. Happy New Years everyone, hope you all enjoy your favourite stick. Just lit up my first Partagas 898 ever. I've been putting it off for some time, as I was a bit nervous following everyone saying how strong it was, hopefully doesn't make me green !
kiwicrusaders Posted December 31, 2013 Author Posted December 31, 2013 Update... She's a beast...I'm enjoying ti but head is spinning a little !
TM-US Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The Don Carlos line isn't bad. I am much more of a fan of the other Fuente products- Opus X, Anejo, Rosado Sungrown and the new Casa Cuba. That being said, I like the Don Carlos robusto and a lot of people like the lancero. The Sr. blend is awesome but unfortunately it's not a production cigar.

The problem I have is when people don't even answer the op questions and then try to tell them.they are wrong, there taste sucks or some other way try to exclude them. This has happened to me before when I was smoking lots of Cohibas, and people have to post that cohibas are overpriced junk for dummies. Maybe I could have said stay respectful Friends. Because that's how I see this hobby. Happy smoking friends.
Colt45 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 The problem I have is when people don't even answer the op questions and then try to tell them.they are wrong, there taste sucks or some other way try to exclude them. Understandable, and that kind of treatment here is not the norm. But purely for conversation...... It is Friends of Habanos - NC discussions happen, but have typically been the exception and not the rule. I probably wouldn't go to a Porsche forum if I wanted to discuss Ferraris - some comparisons aside. Should FOH really morph to become more general, as others....... I suppose if the majority of membership steer it in that direction, that's how it will evolve. Regardless, Happy New Year Everyone - enjoy what you might smoke, drink, etc - no matter it's origin
