I have a Montecristo No.1 from a friend whose father used to smoke. It has a pre-2003 band. Band looks very old. Is there anyway to tell if it's from the 1980's or early-mid 1990's? Will post a pic in a little bit. Thanks.

Yes,you can send it to me and I will carbon date it.This proceedure is 98% accurate and and only requires the destruction of 98% of the object tested.

Please include a gamma-safe return container and US funds in the amount of $3000.00 and your BATF user number, along with a photocopy of your last paycheck and your mother's maiden name.

May the Farce Be With You.............

There is no definitive way to date the c 1940s to c2003 bands.

Here are some pre-1940s bands for info.

BTW that's a Monte 4 on the right (from 2010). I thought Monte 1 were longer, so wondering if you guys think it's a Monte 1 (can't think of what else it could be).

The band on the Monte was the same for quite some time. I find the older the cigar, the band tends to turn to more of a purple cast and the lettering yellows. That's about the best I can do....

Here's a 1982 Monte #1 - I'd say yours is most likely a Monte #3

Thanks. I received the cigar back in 2009 and my friend's dad had stopped smoking 17-18 years prior (what my friend told me at the time). So I'm thinking it's probably early 90s, but could very well be late 80's.

Must be a Monte 3 - same gauge as the #4 but 13mm longer.

RG seems to be same as the No.4 I have. Thanks Trevor!
