Trent0341 Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 If this topic has already been discussed please forgive me but I was unable to locate it through a search. The general consensus seems to be that 2012 was a great year or "vintage" (taking into account that the actual tobacco from the 2012 releases was from multiple years from what I understand). I know it's still very very early but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the potential for 2013 overall. I haven't personally smoked any yet but was curious to hear from those of you who had.
TomBolivar Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I truly appreciate a cigar with a few years of age on it as do the majority of cigar enthusiasts. However, I usually wind up smoking my cigars prior to them getting more than a year or two (at most) of age. Therefore, the majority of cigars I have smoked recently were 2011 and 2012. For 2012, hmm, kind of hard for me to generalize, but IMO it was a pretty great year for lots of cigars. I smoked lots of MC no. 2s and Petit Edmundos from 2012 and they were all fabulous. Had quite a few 2012 Hoyo Epi no 2s and thought they were outstanding. Smoked a fair share of JL no. 1 from 2012, weren't the greatest but certainly enjoyable. Hit and miss with some BBF...as mentioned on another thread, I got some under filled ones here and there. Enjoyed some PLPC, RASS, VRDA, MC A, among others, and for the most part enjoyed them all. I have a box of very young RASS, May 2013. Construction seems very hit and miss. Could just be this box...I have not handled/smoked and other cigars from 2013. Smoked two of these RASS...one was a wind tunnel, the other was great. Hopefully quality for 2013 will be similar to what I experienced in 2012.
Trent0341 Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 The main problem with this question is that it's hard to find anyone with a good cross section of experience with 2013 cigars. I'm hoping that the trend of quality tobacco holds up as well in 2013.
SteveGriff Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 This might sound like a "well, yeah, it's a Cigar from this year, what do you expect", but most of the Cigars from 2013 I've smoked have been very green. This includes Juan Lopez No. 2, Party D4s and Monty Petit Edmundos. Some Cigars you'd expect to smoke ow.
Rye Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 2013's I've smoked; RASCC- box is almost gone. Not a bad one yet El Principe- ^ see above^ Boli RC- continues to disappoint me. Poor construction/consistency CoRo- as good as the 12's I've smoked. Hard to lay down when they smoke like this. HdM Epi2- they are sick now, but were VERY nice when they first arrived. QdO coronas- fantastic. Really, buy some! RASS- they have everything I'm looking for, but will age into blissful things. I'll post more as I smoke/remember them

A green taste is one I've always associated with improperly fermented tobacco but I'm guessing you mean young. If thats the case did you feel that the potential was there? 2013's I've smoked; RASCC- box is almost gone. Not a bad one yet El Principe- ^ see above^ Boli RC- continues to disappoint me. Hopefully a majority of people are having a similar experience.
CanuckSARTech Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Agreed with others - mid-2012 until current 2013 offerings of RA & QdO selections have been just STELLAR, and I would add similar to a slightly lesser extent on Montecristo and Cohiba stuff as well (although those I list as "slightly lesser" just due to the need to search through all the filth that's around from such high production of those).
Skyfall Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Agree with Rye and Keith on the QDO's being stellar!
riazp Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 2012, easially the best year i've had since serioulsy smoking habanos. I have not had much from 2013 since I have not really bought any cigars in the past year but from what I have had, they have been good. Seriously good tobacco coming from cuba now.
Firebender Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 My ENE 13 Epi 2 has been far better than OCT 12 Epi 2
tmc123 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 From the 2013 boxes i have tried so far: Monte edmundo: very nice when first arrived, still nice now Qdo coronas: nice but can see these turning out awesome with 3-5 years Hoyo Epi 2: fantastic, out of the handful i have tried they have all been exceptional Have loved all the small format cigars from 13, El Prince, rassc, boli pc, plpc, party shorts etc with the only exception being the juan lopez petit coronas i had were pretty harsh when i first got them, they were either jan/feb but now they are coming out of a little sick period i think. One of the standouts for me have been the hoyo du prince from 2013. Honestly i am in love with this cigar

Laxman Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 From 2013 I have a few boxes of epi 2's, all have been awesome, a few boxes of jl 2's which have also been stellar but I will put them down for sometime. A 50 cab of RASS that has been very tasty but I will lay it down for 3 to 5 and I believe it will be amazing. That is all I have tried thus far. The Epi 2's I have been very impressed with so far. They are great ROTT. I am looking to pick up as many PSP boxes as i can get my hands on.
garbandz Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 the only bad 12 box was boli belis,I put this to a bad box.Loose and light, not at all the Boli I know and love. Everything else from 12 was a winner. Have had 10 or so boxes from 13,all winners so far.CO,LGC,boli pc and cj,Short church.,cazadores, rascc,Parti 5.......
Hiroshiro Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 So far 2013 is turning out to be a great year. I'll be looking forward to see quality continue into 2014
