El Presidente Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Tell me it's not true? http://fansided.com/2013/10/08/washington-redskins-alternate-names-logos-photos/
DrunkenMonkey Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 About 80 years late, but better late than never.
CigarB Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 why not? Remember the Bullets? Snyder is a different type of owner
Wicky Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 we cannot achieve utopia if some are unhappy. To hell with the people that don't get it.
Isotonic Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Gotta say the Warriors Logo is seriously cool. Not that I would advocate change but their are plenty worse that's for sure. Links them immediately with the 20th century US military history, nations capital blah blah blah... I like it.
DrunkenMonkey Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 People were nostalgic about the decline of the minstrel show too. You'll get over it. 1
srbbones Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 We've seen this story before. We know how it ends. It is only a matter of time until Snyder caves to the PC pressure. I hope I am wrong.
canadianbeaver Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I get the idea and hey, times are changing. My beef is the design better be as good as the one they have. In the design business we call this "instant heritage" and it is a very difficult thing to achieve.
Wicky Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 I don't care for, and am offended by the use of a soldier as a logo. War is wrong.
Ken Gargett Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 has been discussed ad nauseum. sydner has said bugger off. other owners don't seem keen to push it. i gather polls including native americans have been very strongly in favour of retaining it. some see it as a source of pride. others, not so much. you'd think it was off season and the journo's had nothing else to write about. one list of alternatives i saw had simply 'skins'. i could live with that but surely everyone would know it was just redskins shortened? and what then happens to teams like the chiefs, braves etc. and given romo's penchant for choking, how long before real cowboys get pissed off and want it changed? how long before whackjob greenies decide thaat equating bears with violent footy games insults bears? if they were called the kiddyfiddlers or something like that, fair enough but seriously? and may i add, with the greatest respect for the american president, given the financial cesspit blowing up over there at the moment, he really has nothing better to do than to make comments about a sporting team's name?
DrunkenMonkey Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Yes, it's a sad day for all when it has become unacceptable to celebrate genocide. Ken, point me to the polls of Native Americans who favor keeping the name. Where exactly did you gather this from?
SCgarman Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Dan Snyder is an arrogant narcissistic billionaire. He has already stated there is NO chance the name is gonna change, ever. And it won't. While I am not a fan of the skins I live in the DC area and know the owner will not be swayed. He has the money and power to tell just about anybody to bugger off and he will not hesitate to. This charade has been going on for awhile and it ebbs and flows just like other controversies.
Wicky Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 how did we get from a football team to celebrating genocide???? I'm out.
srbbones Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 how did we get from a football team to celebrating genocide???? I'm out. X2
DrunkenMonkey Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 The term 'redskin', when used to refer to Native Americans, dates from the time of the Native American genocide, when bounties were offered to people who would hunt them, kill them, and bring in their scalps, which were exchanged for the bounty.
LLC Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 and given romo's penchant for choking, how long before real cowboys get pissed off and want it changed? LMAO

I'm guessing it was gathered from somewhere bulls are kept. http://washington.cbslocal.com/2013/10/08/how-many-native-americans-think-redskins-is-a-slur/
mk05 Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 All for calling them The Washington Robert Griffins
