Ken Gargett Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 this from the UK drinks mag. obviously we are talking quantity not quality as the determining factor. must confess that bar rums like havana club, capt M, bacardi etc, i had not seen, let alone tasted, most of these. if anyone is more familiar, be interested in thoughts. http://www.thedrinksbusiness.com/2013/09/the-top-10-rum-brands/
canadianbeaver Posted September 30, 2013 Posted September 30, 2013 Brands, based on sales volume. In my house we have 2 bars. The one in the basement is for my kids (they are 25+) and their friends. These are the kinds of bottles that go there. Perfect for them.
polarbear Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I noticed Bundaberg Rum was no-where on thats list... I guess the guys at Bundy didnt answer thier email I reckon some Suburbs of Darwin would consume close to 19.6 million cases over a long weekend... 1
Ryan Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Interesting to see so many Asian rums in there, 3 was it? I think something similar is happening with whiskey regarding sales by volume. I've seen Cacique a lot, every supermarket in Spain, but never tried it. Brugal is good, again every supermarket in Spain and most European duty-frees. Brugal extra-Viejo is very good. In my top 5. Not as sweet as many of the premium rums eg. Zacapa 23, smoother than HC 7, with a nice "toffee-ness" to it.
garbandz Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 There is a great blog..... The Rum Howler...........Which gives ratings for many types of rum.I used it to pick 5 top rated rums to try. I was impressed by the flavors I encountered, and have a whole different impression now about rum.I enjoyed: Matusalem Zacapa Flor de Cano Diplomatico Zaya Pyrat None of these was high dollar, and they all were good sipping rums.............
kws2004 Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I wanna add the Ron Varadero to your List garbandz. Ist a very nice Rum as well!!
TM-US Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 None of those are on my top ten. Zacapa XO, El Dorado 21, El Dorado single barrel, Ron Abuelo Centuria are my top picks. I would add Havana Club Seleccion due Maestro, Brugal 1888, Havana Club 7, Zacapa 23 and El Dorado 12 and Dogfish Head to fill out the list. There is an American agricole that I can't remember and Cruzan single barrel that are a nice change of pace.
HabanoHam Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I definitely agree on both the Zacapa 23 and XO!

I use it to make a great Mojito as it does not make it to sweet.
