I'm no expert but the low carb argument for obesity is intriguing. I read Gary Taubes but I don't know enough to argue either way. I started eating this diet about a year ago (for the most part) and I feel pretty great most of the time and the weight comes off pretty fast.

What if our bodies are completely screwed up by the number of carbs that are pushed on us as healthy alternatives? I know when I have a high carb day, especially when I eat suger, I have an energy hang over for a day or two. That's a real eye opener for me.

It doesn't ?

It absolutely does. This question was answered a very long time ago. No debate in the scientific community.

It's true Mash, scientists don't debate whether or not fluoride does anything to help teeth. There is also little debate that too much fluoride as teeth are developing can cause dental fluorosis which damages teeth from minor staining (brown spots) to fairly extreme pitting and mottling. The incidence of this in the US has increased from 10% of children in 1950 to 45% in 2004.

Many scientists also agree that as people age and continue to accumulate fluoride in their bodies they can develop skeletal fluorisis leading to brittle bones and broken hips. There is also a school of thought that fluoride is a major contributor to Alzheimer's.

If I had a choice (which apparently I don't since the government has decided it is good for me) I would avoid fluoride as much as possible.

Even with a reverse osmosis filter and fluoride-free toothpaste I am still subject to the fluoride in our water from showers, washed clothing, processed foods and beverages (chicken mcnuggets have a very high content!), pesticides, and many other sources.

Evidence shows that fluorides are absorbed through skin at an efficiency of 90%. Also 99% of the ingested fluoride that remains in the body is incorporated in the bones and teeth.

Mike don't forget the other detrimental halogens also like chlorine and bromine that contribute to a whole other host of problems. I have a shower filter that rids the water of chlorine at least and feels much nicer on the skin and no skin irritation etc.

Since smoking rates in the West have dropped dramatically since the 70s, cancer rates have still continued to increase year on year to the point where now one in four are expected to have some form in their lives.

Unsurprisingly rates are even higher in Japan, Europe and the areas in the UmS when significant nuclear weapons and reactors were used and went into meltdown. The new spikes are in Iraq and Afghanistan as the fallout from weaponised depleted munitions have among other things, caused birth defects to rise to up to 75% in areas which saw heavy conflict during the 2003 invasion.

Smoking leaves, or nuclear testing and capitalism running wild? At least our leaders are looking out for us right? :D
