Two great cigars. I was fortunate enough to pick up quite a few boxes of Sir Winnies from 2010. They have been spot on, real flavor sticks. The consistency has been amazing. Definitely one of my go to cigars when I have time to smoke them. Espy's have been very solid I have to say. Cohibas are usually overpriced in my opinion but the Espy's I have smoked have been excellent. But for the price and consistency I would go with the Winnes all day.

While both amazing cigars, I can't help but factor in the additional cost involved with the Cohibas.

Sir WInnies. I have enjoyed some excellent ones from 2010 and the usual 2002 batch.

I'm an Upmann-guy

Well, I voted Cohiba, but I'd take a Bolivar Corona Gigante over either & keep the change. I

I agree with you on that! Boli CG is better than both of those imo, and priced fairly

I love both The Espy and Sir Winnie...the Boli CG that was mentioned is another great Churchill. I voted for the Sir Winstons though. With serious age on them, you can't beat the Sir Winnie. While all three of these cigars age well, the SW ages the best of them all.

What is the SW aging timetable like, how does it grow through the years?

Awesome! In my opinion one of the best cigars for aging and development - it gets better with age, though is entirely approachable when young. As an example - I have 08's that where brilliant then and even better now.

Older is not always better. The cigar has to have the right "guts" to begin with. You also have to factor in subjective tastes, blend inconsistency, and construction inconsistency. I'm not a proponent of throwing down cash on boxes of expensive sticks and expecting them to blow you out of the water after leaving them untouched for 10 years. I would advise trying a couple 1st, then proceed from there. Also, I never depend on a single cigar to make the celebration of an event... even from a "good" box that has been already sampled. Just my $0.02

This.

To the OP, I'd say SW. Doesn't sound like you're going to buy aged stash, and while I haven't smoked a Sir Winston in quite a while, they have to be better than the Esplendidos, which to my tastes are riding on reputation of late.

As I've said a million times before, I'm not convinced that great aged cigars means they age great. Lots of great churchills back in the day, but not so much since and won't ever be, in my very humble opinion. Larger formats have fallen off in general, but, more importantly, aging profiles have changed significantly, so buy what tastes good to you now. Projecting what they will be is imprecise at best. Leaves and agronomy. What are ya gonna do? <shrug>

Received a box of SW's from the Prez and they look GOOD love.gif , can't wait to try them out when I have the 2+ hours to smoke one but they are very young.

So can anyone point me in the right direction on where to find the SW's? At a reasonable price that is...innocent.gif

Aren't they hard to find to begin with? Got mine from Rob and a day later, OUT OF STOCK!

Given I've only smoked 8-9 ESP and likewise w the Winnie's but fr that its a landslide for the Sir Winnie's. I've never smoked an aged esplendido but fr that limited experience I have to go w the sir's.

My 09 esplendis are excellent but I haven't smoked any comparable production SWs but only the 02s that I have. With that being said my vote goes to the the upmanns. Not a fair comparison I know lol.

Sir Winstons always win, when from the same factory - the simple reason is SWs cost half of Esplendidos

IMHO:

When evaluating quality, cost should not be considered.

When evaluating value, cost is a factor.

I am most interested in the comparison on the basis of quality. I'll then make the value call myself. smile.png

With Sir Winstons and Esplendidos of the same quality, I will always take the Winstons. Flavor profile alone is the key factor. The Winston flavor profile is head and shoulders over the Esplendidos, they are just richer and fuller.

Assuming the quality is the same - same factory, same month - what would you choose? nyah.gif

Don't know! I've not had a Sir Winston yet, and only a single Esplendido. I like the latter enough to grab a box on 24:24, and would probably buy a box of Sir Winnies blind at this point...

Then you are assuming everything that you're saying right? Sir Winston died in 03.

Fair comparison:

ECA02 Sir Winston vs BTO13 Espléndido

That's a tough one.

Anyone know how an aged monarch compares with an aged SW? Only had the monarchs in tubos (with quite a few years on them)and never the SW. Cheers

at the level of quality that both these cigars can be...the SW's better price point has to be seriously considered in someone's final decision. i voted SW hands down!
