I bought a box of 10 Partagas Lusitanas TEB MAY 08. Bought it in a La Casa del Habano, dark and oily, alluring smell. Worst box of Cuban Cigars I ever had. Completly tasteless and very very mlld. Remebered me of very cheap Dominican Cigars. A friend cutted it in half cause he couldn't believe there's tobacco inside. But it was in fact looking like it should.

I would like to give the Luistanias a second change.

If I could place a $100 bet....I suspect that at some point over the past 5 years those cigars have been dried out.

I have had plenty of 08 Lusitania and they are excellent. No flavour, mild format = no oil remaining in the cigar.

Like rob said the first question i would ask is about the storage methods of said box, i would also be of the inclination that improper storage has adverse affects on the cigars performance.

I say this because (and rob will confirm) my most recent purchase enquiry was for lusitanias, which i researched heavily. I can honestly say i did not find one bad review of the lusitania, in fact many would call it a classic.

I think I have a ten count Lusis with the exact same box code. I've smoked 2 and I remember one being plugged and I had to cut over half of it off to be able to smoke it, but I remember the other being quite good. Sounds like you got a bad box, I think Prez is right, Luther must have been dried out at some point.

TEB is usually a great code to have from that year. Something ,must've happened along the way before you purchased them. I will say I have a HQ 10'er and of the five I've smoked 2 have been plugged so it happens even in the best boxes.

I'm smoking through a cab of 04 lusitanias and they are great, but two out of ten have draw issues.

Anyway, my TEB 08 Party Lusi box is non-oily and is flat tasting as well. At least its only a 10 pack. And at least I still have my 898's.

In my experience, cheap Dominican cigars have a very vegetal taste that screams "cheap" and "green". I have had my share of flat Lusitanias and I can't imagine how the worst of them could have that unpleasant taste.

Something must have happened to this box, or they are counterfeit.

Let me say that I want to apologize to Guybrush for my statement. It was not in good taste. I will try to keep my Pirate personality in check. Sorry fellas. I hope we can keep this open with this apology to show my efforts to show respect.

Back to the topic. I have my first box of Lusi's headed my way from the last LFTH. I am hoping they are better than Guybrush's experience.

If the wrappers are dark and oily you need to smoke a few more before judging the whole box. Who knows maybe the roller ran out of ligero and the whole cigar is seco. But since Cuba organizes cigars by color, and not roller, chances are you will have some good cigars remaining in the box. It may also be you don't like Partagas. I have met plenty of good guys who just don't care for them. Personally, I love the 898 and think it's the best of the line.

I have a 10 ct box from 08 if which I've had two and both have been fantastic. Like others have said the draw is often on the tight side unfortunately.

I am sorry. I now realise I wrote "change" instead of "chance" and I forgot an "m" in "remembered". I assume there are other mistakes as well in my post. When I started writing in a foreign language I checked every word carefully but now I became sloppy. I have to put more effort into my posts again. In addition I don't think in English and some of my sentence constructions are surely awkward for a native speaker. Perhaps reading and listening to awkward English is the price you have to pay for making everyone speak English around the world.

Every single cigar of the box was the same. I doubt they have been fakes but I think Rob is right and at some point over the past 5 years those cigars have been dried out. However they looked and smelled fantastic when I purchased them. I love Partagas. Especially the recent D4s. Are the recent Lusitanias similar to the recent D4s?

This is a very interesting thread on many levels, besides just how Lusitanias taste.

First, I want to say to Guybrush, that even being a native English speaker, I still butcher the language and my typing skills and editing skills leave a lot to be desired, so that I can come off as a neanderthal (which is probably pretty close to true ). I know I appreciate all participants who share their enjoyment of cigars with us all.

Now the cigar question here which has me very perplexed and even a little concerned, is that issue of cigars drying out and losing aroma and/or flavor. At what point does a cigar lose it's flavor or how dry must it become or how long resting in too low a humidity to impact its flavor? I thought I saw on one thread where the member said he kept his cigars at something like 50%. My concern has to do with winter humidity levels fall very low in the north country even though I have humidity beads and the gage reads 65%, the cigars still feel and look a little dryer...and I worry.....

I will be curious to hear more thoughts concerning this dryness and flavor issue (without de railing this thread...maybe I should start a thread just for this)

I went through a duty free recently and they had lusis on sale.

10 ct boxes for a real bargain, each and every box looked as if it went through the desert on the back of an open truck doing 20 kph.

The dealer looks at me, gives me a knowing look and said " they are dry as a bone, since you opened them you probably shouldn't be buying them"

I Walked away, they probably got them dirt cheap and are looking to off load them.

Yours are probably dried up, nothing can help them now, if there is no sheen and no oils they are as good as sawdust.

I had a box of Partagas 2010 EL's that came without any oil on the wrappers and a layer of what looked like dust on them. I am convinced these sat waiting to be boxed and dried out. Every one out of the box was bland. I have had them in my humidor for two years and no oil has magically appeared in the wrappers. Conversely, I bought a box from one of the LITH's and they are dark/oily and have smoked perfectly. Again, this leads me to believe this one dark/oily cigar he smoked was a random dud. Only smoking multiple cigars from the box will we be able to know if it was stored poorly for a time.
