the FOH 007 trivia quiz!

The Bond Trivia Quiz.

PS - I WILL ADD ANSWERS AS WE GET CORRECT ONES.

First rule – no internet or anything like that. Just your own knowledge. Or if you are tempted to google then please just keep the answers to yourself. There is no prize, unless Rob wants to toss one in, so no point cheating. And it just spoils it for those who would like to give it a real go. So, only give us your own.

This relates to all of the 23 'official' 007 films, plus 'Never Say Never Again', unless otherwise indicated.

The questions are largely ones I got from watching the entire series again recently. And a few others I either knew or recently discovered. It is entirely possible I may have got one or two not completely correct, hopefully not, so feel free to dispute.

I’ll post the answers in a few days.

KBG

ps - there are actually 40 questions but i am buggered if i know why the numbering went as it did??

  1. Cigars. In 'Die Another Day', 007 heads to the rollers in Havana, and presumably as a code, asks for certain cigars. Which cigars did he ask for?

Delectados

corrct, vcool

  1. In 'The World is not Enough', Moneypenny throws what cigar in the bin?

RyJ Churchill

correct vcool.

  1. Which Bond had a clause in his contract ensuring that there was an unlimited supply of cigars available for him on set?

ROGER MOORE

correct, matt3000

  1. In which films does Connery smokes cigars?

.

  1. Which Bonds have not been seen on smoking cigars in any of the films?

DALTON, CRAIG

correct matt3000

  1. A lot of actors have appeared more than once in the series, in different roles. Who has appeared more than anyone else? What else has he had to do with the series?

  1. Roger Moore's daughter appeared in which film? As?

  1. Which Bond girl appeared in more than one 007 film? Name them.

Maud Adams appeared in 3 Bond films; Man With the Golden Gun, Octopussy & View to a Kill

Eunice Grayson appeared twice as Sylvia Trench

correct fuzz.

you got the third maud adams (an extra in 'view to a kill' when she happened to visit the set to say hi) without internet? if so, very impressed.

  1. Name three male actors who have appeared as both good guys and bad guys in the series. The third one wavers a bit in his second appearance, in his recurring role, between good/bad.

Jaws has appeared as a bad guy (The Spy Who Loved Me) and a good guy (in Moonraker starts off bad and then turns good)

The guy who played General Gogol played a henchman in an earlier film, so he played a bad guy twice (henchman and head of KGB), then became a good guy in Living Daylights.

fuzz, close enough for the third (trust you to go straight to the most difficult). i was not thinking jaws, because that is the same character. has to be different characters. it was walter gotell and he was head of the KGB for years and ended up assisting in certain films.

fuzz, i have grave fears that you have transgressed the NO INTERNET rule as wikipedia mistakenly calls him a henchman in the earlier film (from russia with love). he was not. he was the head of spectre island, the evil training facility. also, you quote 'the living daylights'. that was a very very brief appearance at best and it was in films like 'the spy who loved me' - yet wikipedia again mix that up.

fuzz, fess up?

The guy who played the Sheriff JW Pepper in Live and Let Die and Man with the Golden Gun

The Wine guy in The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, & Moonraker

fuzz, i'm talking about different characters so not correct. but wh the hell is the wine guy?

  1. Blofeld. Full name? In which films did he appear?

Ernst Stavro Blofeld - 6 films; From Russia with Love, Thnderball, You Only Live Twice, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Diamonds Are Forever, and For Your Eyes Only.

fuzz, correct name.

as for the films, close but no cigar.

  1. How many actors have played Blofeld? They are...

Four actor played Blofeld, with one of them also playing Bond's contact in You Only Live Twice (played Blofeld in Diamonds Are Forever).

fuzz, again, no. but you are referring to charles gray who also played henderson, 007's contact in tokyo in 'you only live twice'. he also played blofeld in 'diamonds'. in the book, henderson was an aussie and i think he might have fared a bit better than he did in the film.

  1. What type of cat did he have?

  1. Bob Simmons played the supposedly dead Colonel/then his widow, with whom 007 fights, and kills (after attending the funeral), at the beginning of 'Thunderball'. He also appeared in a crucial role in the first three films. What was that role?

  1. In 'Goldeneye', the CIA are supposed to have hidden satellite dishes in which country?

  1. In how many 007 films, does the start to the film show Bond firing back up the gun-barrel while on one knee? Name them.

  1. In which 007 film does Dolph Longren appear as a baddie?

A VIEW TO A KILL.

correct matt3000

  1. Which film was written by Roahl Dahl?

  1. When 007 and Honey Rider are in Dr No's lair, they are walking through a rather well-appointed lounge, up a short flight of stairs, off to dinner. Bond stops to take a closer look at something. What and why?

  1. This is largely replicated in which subsequent 007 film and with what painting?

  1. The famous, 'shaken not stirred' is known all over the world but in one of the books, it is swapped around and became 'stirred not shaken'. Does this happen in any of the films? If so, which?

  1. While 007 drinks Bolly these days, he had more eclectic tastes in early days, including various vintages of Dom. In the book of 'Casino Royale', he drinks 1943 Taittinger, though they never made that vintage. In the book, 'Moonraker', M serves him 1946 Dom, though it was also never made. Any such stuff-ups in the films?

  1. In the search for the first 007, Ian Fleming was keen on David Niven but this was ruled out. He then wanted his cousin to play the role. Who was his cousin, what film did he eventually appear in and what was odd about him?

  1. In 'Casino Royale', an international figure/celebrity makes a cameo appearance. Who was it and what were they doing in the film? I mean literally, not metaphorically.

Richard Branson is going through the metal detector at the airport in Casino Royale.

correct smithy.

  1. Where did Fleming get the name, 'James Bond'?

The name "James Bond" was the name of an author who wrote a book Birds of the West Indies.

fuzz, correct.

  1. What film gives a sly nod to that and how?

I think it was in one of Brosnan's films. not sure but I think it was Die Another Day. I remember one of Bond's contacts had in on his desk.

close enough, fuzz.

smithy - "Birds of The West Indies I thought was a book that Brosnan was reading when he was in Cuba in Die another Day". yes, but that was supposed to be the "joke". it was the book that fleming pinched the name from. fuzz is correct.

  1. In what country were the scenes of Cuba (in 'Die Another Day') shot?

The scenes for Cuba were shot in Spain

correct smithy, first in.

  1. Which Bond song was the only one to go to Number One? By?

I Don't think Shirley Bassey, Sheena Easton or Tom Jones had a hit with their songs. Might have been Duran-Duran as they were pretty big when they did the title to View to a Kill. Was also a big change for Bond films to have a pop group do the title. - correct fuzz.

  1. Who sang the title song of a Bond flick and also appeared in that movie?

I think it was Madonna who sang the title to Die Another Day and appeared as a sword mistress in the fencing club.

correct fuzz.

  1. Tina Turner sang the theme to 'Goldeneye'. Who wrote it?

  1. In 'Dr No', a character is referred to in the credits as 'Boothroyd'. In 'The Spy who Loved Me', Barbera Bach refers to him as Major Boothroyd. He is better known as?

Major Boothroyd is better known as Q

correct fuzz.

  1. Several of the Bond girls had their voices dubbed. All by the same woman, Nikki van der Zyl. Which girls were dubbed?

  1. Leaving aside 'Never Say Never Again', did Sean Connery ever wear a toupee in any Bond film? If so, which?

all of them.

fuzz, correct.

  1. Again, leaving aside 'Never Say Never Again', in which film/s does Bond not drive a car?

  1. In which film is Bond never seen in London?

Not sure but I thought both Dalton films he never even went to the UK?? If not both films then Licence to Kill, if I recall it had a lot to do with the Pinewood studios being broke or almost at the time and they shot most of it in the USA.

GONG. NOT CORRECT SMITHY. no cigar.

35.Where did Fleming get the name 'Goldeneye' from?

Was Goldeneye the name of Flemming's home in Jamaica?

correct mazolaman

  1. Who coined the name, 'Never Say Never Again'?

  1. Does Jaws have any dialogue in any of the films he appears in?

Jaws' only dialogue is in Moonraker: "Well, here's to us"

correct fuzz.

  1. At the beginning of 'You Only Live Twice', an actress called Tsai Chin plays the role of the girl who helps 007 fake his death. She appears in another 007 movie. Which movie and as what? A clue? Different Bonds and a reasonable time gap.

  1. As a creature of the Cold War, Bond often tangled with the Russians and the KGB. In which films is either Russia or the KGB, or a serving member thereof, the main protagonist?

  1. Contrary to popular belief, Lazenby was not sacked after 'OHMSS'. Rather he was offered a deal to play Bond again, but he was not interested (possibly not the best career move). The deal offered him how many more movies as 007?

Who was the wine guy? Didn't look famous, so I didn't think think he was on as a cameo. I always thought he was there as a running gag.

Was watching the Bond series on Ch 7 a few months back, so a lot of this is pretty fresh.

I knew about Maud Adams from an article that I read some time back.

A lot of this stuff I read on a Bond trivia site back when the Bond films were on CH 7. Was a good way to pass the time during the commercials.

Though I will now be Googling the rest!

Wasn't General Gogol the guy right at the end of Living Daylights (1st Dalton film)? Right at the end of the concert, M introduces the Bond girl (can't remember the character's name, but I know it's Maryam D'Abo) to General Gogol.

correct, but very minor role. i think he is out of the KGB and in the diplomatic service by then? but 'spy who loved me' is when he joins with M.

General Pushkin (John Rhys-Davies) took over from Gogol by the time Living Daylights came out.

fuzz, what was that an answer to?

The bad guy that wasn't KGB or Russian. The only other Bond villains I could think of that wasn't related to the Cold War. I guess you could also include Mr Big, the villain from Live and Let Die.

there were plenty of bad guys who were associated with the russians/KGB and also organisations ditto. what i was after was the names of the films where the main protagonists, not side issues etc, were not the russians/KGB. so if i understand you corrrectly, you are suggesting that all films other than 'living daylights' and 'live and let die' fall into that category. thoe two yes, but that is not a complete answer.

so that's why so many bond girls all have this generic voice - i can hear it in my head now when they say "James!"
